I live not far from the racecourse and often go to the races. The Autumn carnival has just finished this year and was held over three consecutive Saturday's. The crowds for each Saturday were decent and I must say this was the first year I think Randwick got it almost right during the carnival in the members - the public still looked extremely busy and long lines. In members they had lots of extra bars set up so you didn't have to stand in lines all day, the toilets were always kept clean and they had extra food stands set up. When going to the races you must try the small pies, they are the best. On carnival days if you want a table make sure you get there early as it gets packed very quickly. Also if you are meeting friends have a place and time organised prior to going as the phone networks get jammed and you can't get onto people. One thing Randwick is not good at on these days is pre-training of staff. You often have first timers on a super busy day working at the bars and learning the register. If only they trained staff prior to the day it would really help things move smoothly.

Personally I much prefer going to the races outside of carnival time as you don't have to fight for a table, get stuck at the TAB for ever and can walk around without bumping into everyone. The races are great for a family picnic on the lawn or after something a little nicer try the Champagne Bar. The staff on the enclosure gates are super friendly and do a wonderful job. All in all always a good day out with mates.
