I'm not really much of a pub goer but I wouldn't really describe the Royal Saxon as your average pub. Boasting a fairly plush interior it's more of a restaurant bar featuring an outdoor eating area as well as ample space inside. Spread across two exceptionally large areas, there's plenty of room to explore. The upstairs bar is great for kicking back to some cool tunes while downstairs is the place to be for socialising. There's also a fairly large courtyard out the back if the weather is nice. The crowd is always well-dressed and the vibe is modern. A great place to go for dinner or drinks with friends. The only problem with this place is that it shuts at 11pm and given the location it's always difficult to decide where next to go!

Join the queue, cross your fingers and hope you are lucky enough to score a pew at this immensely popular venue. With a vibrant bar atmosphere, it can be more club than dining venue at times but the solid Italian fare pumping out from the kitchen is enough to make you stick it out. David McLean, former head chef from the Stokehouse, is the man to thank for dishes such as pork shoulder – tender meat covered in crackling and packed with fennel, rosemary and garlic stuffing – best enjoyed with boutique beer or wine by the litre.
