Saap Thai is situated not far from the World Square in the heart of Sydney.
The cuisine has a huge variety of authentic dishes ranging from noodles and curries to stir-fries. The speciality of Saap Thai however lies in home style dishes such as grilled pork neck salad, tom yum salmon's head soup or som tum (green papaya salad), which is served in 11 different versions.
The service is polite and the food fast, which in this case can not be associated with unhealthy.

After two years I finally came back to this restaurant only to find its quality deteriorating like a pair of jeans losing colour after first wash. Despite the evidence of many people still dining at this premise, the price have gotten up quite considerably, matched with a steep decline of the presentation of the food, their taste and serving sizes.

My friend who ordered papaya salad was very surprised by how unusually chili-hot the dish was -- very different than usual. I too was surprised by how bland the BBQ chicken looked and how small the serving size was compared to ones at similar Thai restaurants nearby.

The staff with their language barrier had difficulty communicating with us, so she had to call the server at the checkout counter to remind us that no bottles from outside the restaurant is to be seen (yes, seen, not just consumed!) inside the premise. And my friend was carrying an empty bottle! We finally had to put it inside the bag because they seem to not understand our explanation. Our guess was that they was worried that people fill up their bottles with the tap water provided.

We should have walked a few steps further and queue up at another Thai restaurant instead.

Cheap, causal and grubby seating area, the food I liked, more northern Thai cuisine so most of the menu is spicy, but you can ask to have the chilli taken out. For 3 people we ordered 5 plates of food and it only came too $60, so its a bargain.

In my opinion, everything in this restaurant is average. Average price, average service sizes, average taste, average customer service. Basically an average 'food-court like' experience. Definitely a place to go when you are in a hurry yet feeling like having a quick Thai cuisine.
