    SAFFRON Indian Gourmet recently relocated into the Mantra Building in the heart of Broadbeach along with a couple of other casual eateries including a Japanese Teppanyaki.

    And where the others have casual, cafe-like fit-outs, Saffron is much more opulent and decked out.

    The rich palette of colours that is synonymous with India fuchsia, burnt orange, ochre and of course, saffron are all put to harmonious use in the spacious lounge that greets you on arrival. It must be the most comfortable place to await a takeaway on the Gold Coast.

    There are solid wooden chairs and tables attractively dressed outside but it was blowing up a storm down the busy highway on the night of our visit so we settled into a table in the corner of the glass-lined dining room.

    It was a quiet mid-week evening so we had the full attention of the two staff who seemed quite shy but filled our water glasses and provided menus and delivered a brief commentary on the menu which starts with the anglicised basics but quickly moves south to Mysore, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
