Sophisticated dishes paired with spectacular views of the harbour from a window seat table. Top class food, service, polished glass and white linens. Floor-to- ceiling glass walls make you feel like part of a picture postcard, whatever the weather. Try the fish specials: to start – king salmon rillette with salmon roe, elery, pomegranate and lemon-pressed olive oil is a real treat. For main, try the blue travella with kipfler potatoes with lemon and caper sauce and lightly steamed broccoli with flaked almonds on top.

A renovation and a new chef pay off on the harbour.
Just love those Sydney sights: the harbour, the bridge, the Opera House, Luna Park. Just how lucky are we? Except I'm looking at scabby rust on the McMahons Point ferry wharf, which blocks a substantial part of that sublime panorama during lunch at Sails on Lavender Bay. Have you heard of Siberian tables in restaurants? They're the worst ones, normally next to the loo. It's the opposite at Sails. Most of the crisp white linen tables are so close to the water you could drop a line from your padded white leather chair. However, the better, unimpeded views are found in the thin rear section opposite the handsome 600-bottle wine rack. It's just a tip, because the other tables are no great disappointment, especially when chef Steven Skelly works so hard to draw your eyes back to the plate. British-born Skelly spent the past few years as understudy to Tony Bilson at Bilson's and Greg Doyle at Pier. Greg Anderson, of Pyrmont's Sugaroom, recently acquired Sails, gave the place a zoosh...
