I have eaten a lot of sushi hand rolls in my time, and Sapporo Japanese Restaurant in Mitcham was my worst sushi experience yet, mostly due to their horrible service. Firstly, my basic request for four takeaway sushi rolls with raw salmon and avocado was met with complete and utter confusion. Once I had repeated myself several times at progressively embarrassing volumes, it became clear that the problem was language. Another staff member had to help interpret, clarifying that what I wanted was two rolls, which amount to four standard hand rolls when cut up. Okay, so $14 was quite steep, but to be expected from a restaurant where sushi is prepared fresh for each order. The final insult came when I inspected the hand rolls. Somehow, despite the fact that I had repeated myself countless times when ordering, they had interpreted my request for 'raw salmon and avocado' as 'raw salmon and cucumber'. There was not even a sliver of avocado in there, nor did the staff ask whether it was fine to use cucumber instead. With my four rolls, they gave me three serves of soy sauce and zero serviettes. Lastly, the rolls were so sloppily put-together that they each disintegrated as soon as my companion and I tried to eat them, spilling rice, cucumber and dignity everywhere. On the positive side, service was swift and polite, the salmon-to-mayonnaise ratio was very good, and they did provide pickled ginger. All in all, my advice to those seeking sushi rolls is to give Sapporo a miss, and instead head to the nearest food court for superior price, service and product. -

We took a client here for lunch and Loved it. The Food was fresh and clean. I had the terriyaki chicken and my associates had a Benton box and pork fillet and rice. All was very good. We found the staff to all say hello to you when you walk in too. That is was very cute. The price was so reasonable and i thought the experience was great. I will certainly be back! -

For a suburban Japanese restaurant it's good. Prices are reasonable, food is good, service a little hit & miss (language of some of the wait staff is not great, and it's definitely not Japanese!). Gyoza is quite good. Sesame ice-cream is interesting and I enjoy it but it's probably not everyone's cup of tea. I haven't tried the daifuku although when I asked I was surprised to find out one of the fillings was peanut butter! -

I love this place!!! I find the food always fresh and very tasty and the staff, whether it be take away or dine in, always make the effort to confirm your order as there can be a slight language barrier. My family and I eat here at least once a week, mostly take away and we always look forward to going again.....normally the next week :) Highly reccommend the Tebasaki- grilled spicy chicken wings!!!!!! a must for us everytime!! -

I love this restaurant - have eaten here or had takeaway at least 20 times and there was only one dish I was not keen on.
The Gyoza, Wafu steak and tempura seafood and veg are all my favourites but there are lots of great items. I've always found it to be great value - I usually share entrees, mains and rice and often have a tempura banana and have never paid more than $30.
The service is sometimes a little hit and miss but not enough of a big deal for me to complain.
