Last night was Sarti celebrated "Eat Drink Chilli" as part of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. The night was inspired by the tradition chilli festival of Calabria, Italy with the restaurant decked out in chilli centrepieces on each table, chilli posters on the walls and of course, calabrian music. The atmosphere was fantastic as all the staff got involved in the night, especially when it came to the chilli eating competition. And we received a bottle of chilli oil as a thank you on our way out.

I was lucky enough to go to Sarti for a work dinner. The food was AMAZING. Defiantly one of my favorite Italian restaurants I had the rib eye and it was cooked perfectly and would of been the best steak i have had in a long time. We then had dessert and shared a Chocolate Bonet which was lovely. The combination of honeycomb, chocolate and raspberry was delicious. Highly recommend.

Yet again Melbourne has delivered a fantastic Italian restaurant. We visited on a Friday night and it was pumping - packed with uber chic Melburnians. The pork belly was a hit, the service efficient, yet a little manic. Still this place earns high praise for a great night out.

Was lucky enough to be taken here for a business lunch the last time I was in Melbourne. Tucked away in one of the City's lane ways - I would never have found it on my own. Entree was a lightly battered zucchini flower - and some whitebait that was shared around. Very crispy and tasty. Mains took a bit too long to come out. But the end result was a light pasta main with calamari and cheese + peas. Service was really really nice.

A new chef and co-owner helps make a formidable team at the helm of this energetic, youthful place.

Odd people, chefs. Just when you think you know what they're up to, they're gone. One minute knocking out killer dishes and the next, you've got a restaurateur on the phone putting his or her particular spin on the latest personnel shake-up. The chef will slide into obscurity and then wham: back in the firing line with a new schtick. Riccardo Momesso is a chef who should have been in the new Age Good Food Guide. He was in the last, at SOS, and before that as head chef at Il Bacaro. A modern chef with Italian leanings. But he's not in this guide. He left his last gig (at Bottega) just on deadline. Urrrgh. Then, several weeks ago, he and his old boss Joe Mammone, from Il Bacaro and Sarti, struck a deal and voila: Sarti has a new head chef. And a new co-owner. The theory is that if his own money's in a place, he'll stay put and work hard. Here's hoping. It's a formidable team and it's an energetic, youthful place. And that's before you get out to its unique rooftop terra...
