5/5? What was that review? SCEGGS guerilla PR team attempting to offset the damage done to their prestigious reputation by three 0.5/5 reviews and a lot of truth? I would hardly call staff at SCEGGS enthusiastic or knowledgeable, and the latter is honestly just a bit laughable. Some teachers do not know basic details about what they are teaching. As a teacher the job demands that you know everything about the subject material you are teaching and SCEGGS teachers sometimes do not. What does happen a lot is that they throw about the weight of their authority, even with simple matters that are not even related to subject matter they are teaching i.e. don't sit like that, -everyone- has to sit uniformly. There is bias amongst the staff towards their students, and talented students are suffering as a result. For a school so expensive the facilities are also inadequate, and it is true that if you compare staff facilities to students, the staff seem to be far better looked after. Honestly, your child can have access to all the "activities the school offers" at a public school too. It is not unique to SCEGGS that a wide variety of opportunities is offered. A student does not have to go to an expensive school like SCEGGS to do Duke of Ed. or to join the school choir, or to partake in competitions! SCEGGS has been a mistake for our daughter, and I could not recommend it less.

My daughter has had a great experience at SCEGGS for the past six years. She has been happy and really involved in all the activities the school offers. The staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable and have really encouraged her learning. We couldn't recommend it more highly. It has been a great fit for our daughter.

    I hate SCEGGS Darlinghurst.
    Some staff overuse their authority.

They are like whooping willow trees spreading their big powerful roots and stopping the seeds from growing.

All the poor students' potentials and strengths gone and diminished forever by the authorities of SCEGGS Darlinghurst.

WOW, the sentiments expressed below are so accurate. I was immensely disappointed, and consider my daughter's move to SCEGGS Darlinghurst a terrible mistake. Some teachers were arrogant. There was definitely prejudice expressed by some teachers towards girls who were too competent in their studies, and as a parent I was powerless for all my comments to the school about the manner in which my daughter was being treated were not received well. Some teachers will not admit their mistakes, and there is no figure within the school willing to moderate their behaviour in my opinion. The words of care expressed for the students at formal gatherings are quite empty, for this school is all appearances and has no substance. SCEGGS Darlinghurst it is a school that can appear completely inconsiderate of the welfare of it's students. The claims of great pastoral care on it's website hold no value. Even if you do explicitly inform them of the traumatic experiences your daughter has been through, your requests to respect the emotional state of your child will be ignored. As a parent of a former student, I can say that under no circumstances could I recommend this school.

Our experience at SCEGGS have definitely been a great disappointment. It is NOT worth paying $27,000 a year for a school like this. In my opinion some of the staff there are of very low quality in the subject they teach, do not put much effort in their job, sometimes might be very prejudiced against particular students and worst of all they abuse their power, and are scared of taking responsibility.
The facilities in the school are also not worth your money. The technology levy is $500-not included in the school fees, but they only have one printer for students to use. Compared to public schools, the facilities are not much better. They do not have air conditioning, only fans. However, they do have air conditioning in staff rooms and offices. Most of the money you are paying is going to the staff. We are funding their lives and their childrens and grandchildrens.

Their motto Let your light shine is the exact opposite of what they are doing at the school. SCEGGS extinguishes the light, no matter how many times it comes back to shine. Therefore, many talents have left SCEGGS. Talented students and talented teachers, one by one have left this place. Now, their history is the only thing that keeps them strong. The famous academic and honest history of SCEGGS is dying. As the school fees rises, the fabulous history of SCEGGS fades.
