All hail the bean

Just watching three baristas working at once on the three-group espresso machine churning out nearly 1000 cups of coffee a day is enough to impress anyone but when you know the pedigree behind this cafe - Cafe Ray, St Ali, Brother Baba Budan - you know you are amongst coffee royalty. Mark Dundon and Bridget Amor have educated Melburnians on all things coffee and have enlightened many as to the plight of growers all around the globe and the need to buy from those operating with high ethical standards. Some hearty brekkie dishes and a satisfying lunch menu complement the daily grind.

Having read amazing reviews about this cafe, my friends and I ventured there one day for lunch. What a treat it was! The interior of the restaurant (formerly a warehouse) was awesome, and the array of coffee-loving patrons busily engrossed in conversations with their friends (and/or busy working in front of their laptops) gave the impression of patrons serious about their coffee and food. The latter were definitely proven with my salad and coffee being 'the tops'.

How is it this place has not been reviewed?
Ok seriously, best coffee in melbourne (or damn close anyway). I know there is a bit of hype about seven seeds, but they deserve it. Great blends, beautiful single origins. Roasted on site. They offsell to several cafes now including market lane and dead man espresso. Simply perfect coffees almost all the time.
Funky little warehouse style building, hard to spot as there is no sign - just a solid wood door. Worth the wait if you get there during a busy period. Nice food - my only criticism is the menu is often a bit restricted. This is due to a small kitchen, but a wider menu range would make it perfect.
