Americano comes to Australia. Discrete entry into a pretty Wild bar; I'm not going to tell you how to find it as its busy enough already! Great drinks with some REAL American beers (but wheres my beloved Yuengling?!?) and top notch cocktails - but do expect to pay for them. Worth a visit... even if just as a one or two drink catchup joint.

I've heard about this place many times and finally went there for a drink. It's so discrete the doorman doubles as a concierge, asking passers by in the otherwise deserted back alley whether they are looking for "Shady Pines?". You enter through a plain and dirty old white door into a dark american style wild west bar. It actually feels like you could be in a US ski resort.Good fun!

Great hidden gem in Darlinghurst! Its quite easy to miss this place even if you walk right past, but this all adds to the Shady Pines Experience! The Wild west theme and the free peanuts really set the mood for an enjoyable and memorable night. Drinks are pretty reasonably priced and I have never been disappointed!

Super cool alleyway bar makes you feel you've been transported into another world upon entry. Love the wild west Americana decor, taxidermied animals included. Good range of beers, friendly bar staff, and although it gets pretty loud in there when it's full, you can still have a decent conversation without overpowering music in the foreground.

Free shelled peanuts are an ingenious idea. Hygenic and delicious bar snack adds a special touch to the place. Definitely one of the best bars in Sydney.

Agree with all of the reviews below, but need to add a comment on the awesome selection of bourbons - some of which you simply won't find anywhere else in Australia.

The guys know their stuff and it shows in their selection and service. Top notch!

    Plus free peanuts!

Funky new bar in Darlinghurst, set in a laneway that you would never be able to find if someone didn't tell you about it. Cool themed bar, seems to be pretty busy but tolerable on weeknights. I haven't tried it on weekend just as yet. The staff are really friendly and are quick to serve you.

Really chilled, good-feel bar with soul and a interesting mixed crowd. I hope it stays this way. Big thumbs up.

After a brief reflection I realise that four stars wasn't enough considering this is my favourite bar in Sydney.

With the large influx of alleyway bars there has to be one that rules them all and for me Shady Pines is it. I love the way it's set up - the perfect view you get of anyone descending the stairs into the room which on the flip side allows you to see the whole room upon entering.

I recommend you try a cocktail or three (the Twentieth Century was a hit) and the local beers they stock are what keeps me going back. If you frequent bars in Sydney this is going to seem very reasonably priced.

I'm not going to beat around the bush here this bar packs out with hot girls. Unlike some other bars the bouncer keeps the maximum number of people at 80 which is the perfect level of packed to keep the wait at the bar minimal. If you can, go early, it's best when people are just trickling in post work.

    Ultimate Sydney

Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name, and friends are always glad you came. It might not be Cheers, but there’s definitely a touch of the classic American dive bar about Shady Pines Saloon. We don’t know whether it’s the acres of dark wood, the complimentary peanuts or the whisky, but this tiny bar couldn’t be more Yankee if it tried. Hard to find but well worth the search, if not for the $17 cocktails then for the quirky crowd. And they have both kinds of music: country and western.
