Renowned as a bar for locals and journos, its vibrant atmosphere is alive with friendly banter over a few cold schooners or wines. The no frills setting is cosy and inviting and there is a selection of hearty pub fare on offer including $5 steaks and chicken.

Went here for the ummmteenthy time yetersday. Main reason why my friends and i go is the affortable and wonderfull Food there. Notice this time that the chicken parmigiana have gone up to $12.5. Still a bargin. Got the Osso Bucco this time, Which was great (Only $15). The daycore of this Pub is very old school which add to its charm. Shakespeare Hotel is a permanite fixer on our pub crawl to the SCG for a Swans game. Must try if your in the area, i think.

Easily the best pub in Surry Hills and one of the best in all of Sydney, the Shakespeare is a good old fashioned pub and something of a Sydney icon. Unrenovated and completely unpretentious, it's all squeaky floorboards, stained carpets and narrow staircases, and the front bar always has an eclectic crowd. It all just adds to the charm of this place, which looks and feels like an old English pub. Downstairs is where the Surry Hills characters gather for a drink and upstairs, if you can get a table, are a few different dining areas and nooks. There are some great $10 meals on offer and happy hour is a bargain too, which means a night here can be very cheap indeed. If you like no-fuss, unpretentious and honest pubs full of charm and character, the Shakey will be right up your alley. -

The $10 meals are a bargain and not lacking in quality. Good selection of beers and upstairs has great old fashioned decor and feel about it. Sometimes a struggle to find spare seats, but if you can find a spot you'll probably stay put for quite a while. -

A no nonsense boozer that attracts the Surry Hills set as well as a smattering of old timers. The $10 meals are good value, but hardly a gourmet's dream. There are lots of dark, cosy corners upstairs in which to sink a schooner or two or sip on a glass of cheap happy hour wine. Nice atmosphere - a traditional pub. -

Best place I have ever eaten for only $10. Graet sized servings , quality food. The atmosphere is quite nice to. Take a couple of friends and sit up the back of the hotel, very cosy! Definately be back and well worth the visit. -

The food is awesome value for $10 but it's also taste's great! You should see the size of their pork rib rack! The only issue is getting a table because it gets really busy at times. Also they run cheap cocktails upstairs on a weeknight! A great place to go!
