Shanghai Night Restaurant

  • To Shanghai Night Restaurant
Nestled into the heart of Ashfield ‘Shanghai Night Restaurant’ boasts the best Chinese food this side of… well… Shanghai! At a third of the price you’d expect chow down on eighteen freshly prepared dumplings for just under seven dollars. If you can bring yourself to move on from them, why not try out the house speciality (Nan-Jing duck) or even some spicy Chinese New Year rice cake (luckily served all year round).

Relax with friends and family in this warming environment, but be warned, the dumplings are purportedly addictive.

We arrived slightly past 7pm and the place was full, right to the seam. But it didn't take long for us to be seated. Patrons came and went rather quickly.

Our food arrived quickly too although the quality was just as good as ever. That's the great thing about this place; food is always good no matter how busy they are, what time it is.

That's why they're full. We'll be back again!

Year after year, we just keep going back to Shanghai Night for our noodles and dumplings 'fix'.
Their dumplings are simply the best, fresh handmade on premises, tasty and authentic, just like in Shanghai, China.
Best of all, you can eat to your hearts contend without eating a hole in your pocket! The best!

The food is good, but nothing outstanding I've tried.
Kinda disappointed as we came here hoping to have great Chinese food as friends have talked about this place.

This restaurant has both authentic Shanghai and Gongdong food. Not sure where the chef is from. :) Anyway, good food and low price. I like the roasted beef with Shanghai dumplings. Seafood is nice as well. I like the friend baby octopus with eggs and flours. Sometimes it has promotion of "Shanghai Crab". Worth a try.

Considered to be THE place to go in Ashfield for Shanghai food - for good reason too! The handmade dumpling are what it's all about. Pan fried, steamed, boiled, whatever - they're all really good! Also try the sweet and sour noodles, the silver thread rolls and the spring onion pancakes. Great value for money too.

Amazing food but the service can be lacking at times.

Favorites: Shanghai dumplings, sizzling rice and shallot pancakes.

Feed 2 people cheaply for around 10 a head.

So many people have told us this is THE place for Chinese food. They were right. The shallot pancake is lovely (even better dipped in soy) and the best ever Singapore noodles you will ever eat! We also ordered roast duck, pork belly with bamboo, and sizzling mongolian lamb. The flavours are very rich, ingredients were fresh and serves were very generous. Staff are cheerful and efficient, and prices are very reasonable. Don't be put off by the decor. The place is neat and clean. Their focus is entirely on dishing out excellent food. Definelty worth a visit.
