Stayed here for an anniversary weekend, overall it was really nice, had a nice feel to it the breakfast buffet i have to admin was pretty good

The new lobby at the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is lovely. Its all candles and aromatherapy. So far so good. The room ( superior in the case) was compact but tastefully decorated and modern. The beds are quite fantastic if you like heaps of padding ( which I do). The bathroom was a bit small and uninspiring. I asked for some bath towels which never materialised which was a big mistake as it left a real sour taste in my hotel review mouth!. 3 stars but really- it's a 5 star hotel that didnt quite live up to its reputation.

Cheese and wine tasting is the latest in date night fare. A step up from a coffee, especially here. A huge round table is weighed down with an array of delicious French creamy, stinky and hard cheeses. An enormous Italian Parmesan looks good enough to dive in headfirst. The classy occasion comes with white cloths, polished glasses and tiny silver butter dishes and yes, you betcha, a French waiter. Cheese is served with three wines, a cheeky chardy, a polished pinot and a surly shiraz as well as plenty of olives, muscatels, grissini, lavosh and crusty bread.

Smoked salmon, champagne and lovely lemon meringue tarts. The strawberries topped with cream and dipped in a cone of chocolate may require a napkin but are so good. This afternoon tea is very French and includes pastries with trendy Parisian Le Nôtre desserts. Don’t go past the frambroisier – a ridiculously wonderful raspberry sweet treat.
