Sosta Cucina's owner Maurice Santucci and head chef Travis Humphery both have North Italian heritage, which is expressed in the food and atmosphere of this modest but elegant restaurant in North Melbourne. On offer are many antispati dishes, as well as some creative pastas and risottos. Mains include the likes of coniglio in due modi - rabbit in two ways - baked loin wrapped in pancetta and puff pastry and legs braised with peas and wild fennel. The interior is simple and unpretentious with family photos hanging on the walls and an intimate vibe.

Entree's were a little mixed. Mussels were brilliant, sweet and fresh. The rest was nothing special. Mains; ragu delicious, crab linguine over salted. Massive wait between main and dessert that ruined the whole might. However, dessert was delicious!!

My mates and I went here for dinner on Wed 8th Dec 2010 after reading a review about it.
The service was not upto scratch - the waiter took which seemed like ages to serve us.

Entree - Affettato misto con verdure e foccacia Genovese - nothing special or different about a mix of cold sliced meats
Mains - Risotto del giorno - It was an asparagus Risotto (of the day). Small serving and very expensive compared to what I have had in other restaurants. Tasted ok but nothing to boast about.
Desert & cofee - Bombolini ripieni - basically three tiny round donuts with vanilla cream and melted chocolate on the side. My brother and i wanted to share just one serve but the water said he will add another donut to make it even. We thought it was complimentary but no - we got charged nearly $5 for that extra one! I actually enjoyed the desert more than any of the meals. Coffee far too strong and dark for a flat white and not smooth. There was a strange rock looking biscuit served along with the coffee which was ok.

To summarise: don't want to go there again, didn't like the service or food and too pricey for what it's worth. They will bill you for every little extra so watch out! Serving quantities are small.

I love this place. The staff are very warm and the service is great. Oh but the FOOD! I have never had a bad meal here and everything from salads, pasta to dessert is top notch. The house wine is also something to write home about. This place is an undiscovered gem.

This new and welcoming restaurant is doing interesting Italian food at reasonable prices.

When a chef opens their first restaurant, it can go badly very quickly, often before the doors even open. Some chefs see it as an opportunity to strut the stuff their bosses always kept in check. They sweat over wild masterpieces in the kitchen while the dining room - and the accounts - go to the dogs. Some scrimp on the wrong things, choosing an unpromising location or poor lighting, and trusting that the magnificence of their food will draw the punters. No, not usually. A few get it right. Ambition, vision and the bottom line meld, leading to fine food, good service and a humming business. Sosta Cucina, a new Italian restaurant on vibrant Errol Street, is one of those places: you feel it as soon as you walk in. There's soul, there's a clear intention and, crucially, there's experience on hand to ensure it all sings. The place is owned by Maurice Santucci, a chef of 20 years' standing. You've eaten with him at The Grand, Cafe a Taglio and Termini. Sosta Cucina has been open a...
