FOR six years, popular western suburbs restaurateur Terry Leung has been attracting diners to Auchenflowers Food and Soul.
Now, he has a second eatery in Milton, with former apprentice and now business partner James Osborn. There are no panini or burgers on the Soul Bistro menu. Rather, the lunch offerings are interesting, occasionally surprising (sugar and chilli calamari) and very appealing. From the “fresh from the markets” section of the list, I ordered tempura tiger prawns with a lemon eggplant dip ($13). It was fabulous, doubly so given the price. Six lovely prawns in a seasoned tempura batter were presented on a rectangular platter atop a bed of lemony eggplant dip. The sweet dip beautifully complemented the prawns in their crunchy coating. It was a light lunch but all the better for not being swamped by piles of chips and salad.
