Overlooking St.Kilda beach. Soulmama is a warm, cosy, open plan dining area featuring a gas fireplace, comfortable couches and spectaclar views. Head Chef Cathy Maguire and her team prepare a purely vegetarian menu based on fresh seasonal produce in a buffet style. Soulmama's philosophy is based upon strong ethics and beliefs against the unnecessary killing of animals and the cruelty humans can inflict on them. The kitchen has never served nor stored meat and never will. A range of beers, Australian, imported and organic wine are available.

I'll start by saying that I love the philosophy and ethic of this restaurant, and for that reason alone, I was more than happy to be a patron and part of the Soulmama scene. To see so many people joining together in a vegetarian/vegan canteen was quite spiritual and something I won't forget in a while. Loved the staff - Found them bright and gentle, welcoming and helpful. The dishes aren't inexpensive, but they stretch to two if you're not too hungry, so I would suggest they are a fair price; even more reasonable when you factor-in the suburb and location. Looking around I could see it was not for everyone, but I have to wonder whether those not enjoying themselves were perhaps the ones that needed to unwind in the ambiance the most. In all honesty the only thing that really bothered me - was the parking - so allow time to get that bit sorted before a relaxing good feed in an earthy, yet vibrant wonderland. -

First tried Soul Mamas almost a year ago and throughly enjoyed the overall experience. Went recently with some friends. Our experience was very disappointing. Food was terrible. Not only was the hot meals, stone cold it had to taste, texture or enjoyable feature. All around bland! Staff were extremely unhelpful and took 20 minutes (in an empty restaurant??!!) to assist with our issue. We were also instructed that we were not allowed to have a jug of water on our table of 6 people? Rather odd. Lastly, when we did bring our disappointment to the attention of the the staff, in a highly constructive and pleasant way, they were unwilling to accept the feedback or attempt to fix our issues with the food. Instead we were given the bill and sent on our way. Needless to say that my home vegetarian cooking, is at a much higher standard and if i am looking for a poorly cooked and flavoured vegetarian meal, i will eat in a shopping centre food court, rather than waste my time and money. -

The beauty of vegetarian only restaurants are that they know what vegetarians want and it doesn't come in the form of a vegetable stack. Lovely meals, views and ambience. I love it so much I'm considering having my wedding reception there. -

Now let me paint the picture. I'm a carnivore. Whenever I get the chance to ord3er cuisine, it usually contains meat. Now let me add that I have a vegan sister. Said sister invited me to soulmama. Usually when I get invited to vegan friendly eateries, I tolerate them at best...well soulmama, you've almost got a convert in me! The food was all good, the atmosphere, although somewhat crazy & hectic, was great & had a buzz. The portions were sizeable. It didnt hit my back pocket...is there anything else I need to say? Soulmama rocks, plain & simple! -

Soulmama used to be "the place". I hadn't been there for about 4 years and thought I would try it out again on the weekend. I was very impressed. Fabulous food, superb view of St Kilda beach, and the service was great. I had the rice and 4 choices and it was enough for 2- Wow- generous helpings!! What a lovely way to spend an afternoon. -

the perfect vegitarian eatery for people who dont typically choose to eat vegitarian - great selection, loads of options, very tasty - make sure you try out some of their preservative free wines. nice views at night as well. great place to get together with a bunch of people.
