Love this place more than SIA Surry Hills. Little bit more exxy, but worth it for the food. Amazing. Go there if you can! Pork belly with chilli jam... need I say more!!!

A schmick version of the awesome, casual Spice I Am on Wentworth avenue in Surry Hills, this place has so much more to offer and is seriously impressive. Sure, it's more expensive and there was a whole lot of hype surrounding it which is always hard to live up to, no matter how good a restaurant is, but it's easily worth checking out. The service on the night I went was impeccable and genuinely warm, the cocktails were brilliant as a pre-dinner warm-up, and the food was the best Thai I've had in Sydney, hands-down. The duck curry, pork belly with chilli jam and stir fried crispy tofu were all amazing. The servings are really generous, so though the dishes are expensive, they're good for sharing, and you don't have to order nearly as many as you think. I don't ordinarily order dessert at Thai restaurants, but this was a special occasion so our table got a few to share and they were so so good almost the highlight of the night. The warm black sticky rice and the tapioca pearl were incredible! Worth saving up for a visit here, I say.

We're a fan of Spice I Am in Surry Hills (for takeaway) so had high expectations for the new Spice I Am in Darlinghurst. We weren't disappointed. On the plus side they take bookings, have a slick cocktail bar and the service are attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. On the down side there were none of our favorite dishes from the other restaurant on the menu but it didn't take long to discover some real gems. We loved the rice paper dumplings, crispy pork belly and the green curry beef - slow cooked to perfection.

Make sure you book well ahead as this place is pumping only a few weeks after opening. Couples are advised to avoid table 14 (its stuck behind a pillar and the lighting for this table is too harsh - and couldn't be turned down we discovered...). A small criticism for what is a very good restaurant.

If you like Long Grain but hate the fact you can't make a booking then the new Spice I Am is definitely worth putting on your restaurant list.

MULTIPLE restaurants under the one name are funny things.

Eat at Nobu and you're basically offered the same fare no matter where you dine around the globe. Eat at the new Spice I Am - the restaurant, just over a kilometre from the Surry Hills original, and the experience seems worlds apart. The Darlinghurst spin-off is a disappointment. It's gone posh and comes across as a textbook lesson in cashing in on its small, cheaper forebear's popularity.
