    I visited Spoon Paddington caf the other day at 12:15 in the afternoon. It was not particularly busy. In fact most of the tables were empty.
    I waited until 12:30 and decided 15 minutes was long enough to wait to be served. Several staff saw me and simply ignored me. I later realised that apparently one has to order at the counter. Nup If Im paying for full price coffee I want someone to bring it to me at my table.In fact to earn a tip the waiter will need to sing and dance and tell a joke!

    During this 15 minute wait, I noticed several tables were not cleaned. One particular table, adjacent to a mother with her baby in a pram, was being attended to by not a waiter, but a magpie helping itself to the leftover food on the plates.
    A waiter could not fail to miss the table as he had to walk past it to get to customers from the counter.
    One customer was so incensed by the lack of service THEY had (or had not) received that they moved two cups from their table (from previous customers) to the one with the magpie.
    Quite simply the service by staff was well below poor. It was actually non-existent.
    After 15 minutes I moved downstairs to another caf where the staff actually think paying customers are a neat idea and should be encouraged to visit
    Now, you may think I am being over zealous in my criticism. However like many others who have travelled both interstate and overseas and experienced good service, Spoon staff have proven that they are unable to give customers the courtesy of working for the $4+ they want to charge for a simple coffee.
    I work as a Business workplace assessor, and note that the staff, based on what I observed, have not even met the basic Certificate II level (equal to grade 10 school) competency for:
    1. Addressing customer needs
    2. Participating in OHS processes (health standards)
    II also specialise in training staff in Sales standards. One thing I always mention is that a happy customer will tell maybe three other people. However an unhappy customer will tell 10 or more people!

    I much prefer the spoon in the valley. I felt the prices here were very inflated for what you got. The quality was nice, but the wait staff could have been friendlier. Also, being on latrobe tce, the traffic did not make the atmosphere all that great.
