DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, BUY A VEHICLE FROM THIS DEALER. We recently purchased a car for our daughter and was assured it was roadworthy. It was advertised as cheap, we didnt expect it to be a death trap. There were no obvious faults after two test drives and a warranty was thrown in as a sweetener. This effectively allowed them to wash their hands of the vehicle. We dont know much about cars. We were unaware MTA and other organisations do pre-purchase inspections (NRMA now only do post purchase) and they certainly didnt suggest any. From the minute we drove it from the lot we have had nothing but trouble with the car engine running rough to the point of stalling, multiple oil leaks, large water consumption, faulty gear changes, overheating, faulty lights on dash - and no help from them. Despite 2 visits back to their mechanic (the second one lasting 3 weeks) and assurances that the vehicle's faults were fixed, an independent inspection found, amongst other faults, that the vehicle:
- had cracked head gasket, despite the mechanic insisting it did not
- needed new front & rear shocks
- ABS system inoperative and needed front brakes & disc rotors as they were near minimum thickness,
- seized tierod ends
These are what most people would consider essential elements for safety and roadworthiness. Not, it appears, Steve Foster and Sons. We spoke to Steve Foster once in person. He assured us they were not in the business of selling faulty vehicles. He did not come across as trustworthy. The warranty company refused to cover any of these faults something they would have been expected to know. We have since had to sell the vehicle at a loss of $4500 and buy another from a dealer who happily recommended a pre-purchase inspection from MTA. Needless to say complaints will be lodged with MTA and Dept of Fair Trading.
