Classic-but-creative Italian, delivered by vintage waiters sporting that unique brand of gruffness with a wink.
Paddington-ites are used to secret hideouts, tucked around corners in narrow one-way streets, invisible to a stranger's eye. A newish but increasingly frequented hideout pushed back above street level, Sugo (pictured) has that inimitable Italian pizzeria-ristorante feel - tiled floors, whitewashed walls and an open oven at one end, manned by a practised pizzaiolo (pizza chef). Antipasti and housemade pasta are in the classic-but-creative mode, delivered by vintage Italian waiters sporting that unique brand of gruffness with a wink. The pizza is all smiles though, including a puffy, salt-dusted, extra-virgin-olive-oil-drizzled pizza bianca you could eat on its own any time of day ($11). With the owners' emphasis on quality ingredients, including a range of imported cheeses, you'll also find a top-notch margherita ($18) and a very fine Quattro formaggi, dripping with melted mozzarella, fontina, gorgonzola and ricotta ($20).
