Customer service is okay. Thought the food was overrated but its actually divine! I'll come back again soon. thanks!

Very nice experience, however I didn't think the food was all that it was cracked up to be at their prices. I've had tastier Thai food at other more humble Thai restaurants.

My favourite Thai place in Newtown. It's close to home so has become my regular for take away Thai. No disappointments so far. Recommended.

After seeing this place at the top of the list of restaurants on the TrueLocal home page, I decided that it was finally time to try Thai Pothong out :)

First of all - make sure you make a reservation! I went on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was full. I was very glad I had made a reservation earlier that afternoon. The decor is beautiful, the service is polite and friendly. It's the type of restaurant where as soon as you're seated they shake out the napkin to lay across your lap.

For entree we had the Miang Goong, which is four pieces of a combination of roast coconut, prawns, sweet chilli jam, lemon, cashew nuts, onion, and caviar served on a Betel leaf. Absolutely gorgeous!

Main I had the roast duck salad, which had sliced roast duck breast, Spanish onions, roast coconut, and mint leaves with lemon. Maybe a bit too much Spanish onion, and the dish was on the small side, but if you're having a three course meal it's quite sufficient if you're small-stomached. It is a salad, after all. The duck was tender and I was surprised with how lovely the roast coconut went with it.

My friend had the pad thai and I tried one of her prawns - without a doubt the best prawns I've ever eaten! It was only then that I realised just how overcooked the prawns I normally eat/cook are. Silky and heavenly :)

We skipped on dessert, as we were full and the majority of the dessert menu seemed to involve jackfruit, lychees or banana (typical Thai-fare), none of which I'm particularly fond of.

My one criticism is the staff bringing the steamed rice that we hadn't ordered. My friend who has been there before told me that the staff always bring rice to you, whether or not you've ordered it (and then charge you for it). So when you see someone coming over to set up a stand for the rice tureen, just quickly point out that you hadn't ordered the rice.

Overall, a lovely night. This place is on the pricey side, but with good reason. The food is fresh and of good quality.
