I always seem to forget about the Australian Museum, and then head back there after a long hiatus and wonder why I don't come more often! This museum mixes old school displays- skeletons, pinned insects & taxidermy- with fabulous old stairways and little nooks & great museum interpretations. There are some really good hands-on areas for kids & a good range of changing exhibitions. Currently they're showing wildlife photography. The shop too is worth a mention with loads of great books, dinosaur figurines, science/ engineering type toys & quirky toys.
