One of Sydney's Premier Pubs - Everyone welcome

The Beresford Hotel re-opened in 2008 after a multi million-dollar refit and has been recently been taken over by bar tsar Justin Hemmes - think Ivy, Slip Inn and Est to name af few.

Justin has promised the Beresford is all about the community and has immediately introduced a more cool and relaxed vibe to the place. The Beresford features:

- The front bar - a great place to catch up with friends for a casual drink.
- The restaurant/cafe - serving contemporary bar food, ideal for a lazy Saturday/Sunday afternoon late lunch or a snack with drinks (no bookings).
- The courtyard - a large outside space ideal for lazy afternoons and a glass of vino - you'll usually find a DJ playing here late on a Sunday and other many other nights
- Level 1 - originally scheduled to be opened in late 2008 by the previous owners as a ballroom but never finished - knowing Justin big things will be planned for late 2010/2011 so stay tuned.

The Beresford has always maintained a fond position in Sydney's heart (especially Gay Sydney) and is a place for the whole community - straight or gay.

If you like a slick designer location, good service and a friendly welcoming atmosphere the Beresford is for you.

Just like a typical Merivale bar, they know how to party.

I hadn't been to this place on a Sunday night, and it totally goes off, I didn't realise the amount of people that don't want the weekend to end so they party on.

Happy runs from 5-7pm downstairs and till 8pm upstairs - I don't think other nights are like this though. If you want a drink with friends with a seat, get in early and be prepared to queue.

Can't go wrong with the Beresford. Great ambiance, you can chill with your friends and have a drink or dance silly on the second floor's dance floor. I like that it's divided so if you want a quiet night or evening you have the option. The food is also really good. A lazy Sunday must.

By far one of my local fav's in Surry Hills/Darlo. The decor is amazing both up and downstairs. If you are keen for a drink or dance off with you friends then you can't go wrong here with the choice. I've never had a bad night here, and if you are looking for a bite to eat the menu is real good.

This is a great venue for catching up with friends on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The rennovations to this old pub were fantasic and the courtyard is large and attractive. Great place to have a drink, especially if you are a local.

A regular visitor to the Beresford Hotel, I find it a venue that proves drinks are appropriate no matter what day of the week it is. The sophisticated, yet laid back atmosphere draws In the crowds every night of the week. The decor is exceptional inside and out, With the star and lantern lit beer garden being my favourite spot. Thier staff provide exceptional and prompt service, and nothing is ever too much for them.
Thier fine wines, great staff, beautiful decor and amazing gourmet pizzas Is what keep me coming back.

The Beresford Hotel proves to be an exceptional venue for work, social and personal functions time and time again. The refined yet moody atmosphere sets the perfect scene for these various events. With the wide range of wines and beers to the delicious cocktail options, youre sure to find a beverage to suit all.

The Beresford makes a fantastic venue for both mid week drinks and a nice warm up venue on the weekend. Its convenient location, being within minutes of Oxford St, makes it a desirable start to any good Saturday night.

The fact that the beer garden and the internal dcor are of the same high standards wins my admiration. Too often I feel the smokers and patrons who prefer to be seated outside are treated like second class customers. Its a rarity to find a venue that has both an enjoyable internal dcor and an elegant beer garden.

All in all, the Beresford Hotel makes a brilliant, chilled and comfortable venue, which can be enjoyed by all.

Deceiving from the outside. This place oozes good vibes and taste. The Justin Hemmes touch. The staff are great. You know, the kind that bring your cocktail to the table under the Japanese maple in the garden. Talking cocktails, their grapefruit one packs a punch. Mixed clientele with modern comfy leather lounges amongst curved glass shelving dripping with healthy pot plants. I hear the mens' room is "different".

The front hides a one of the nicest bars in all of Sydney. I've heard Sunday the place gets packed and is rather unpleasant. But all the other times I've been there like on a Tuesday night, there's plenty of room and plenty of seating for everyone.

I did not think the prices were inflated either. Good atmosphere, above average toilets and generally a nice place to eat and drink. Really no complaints.

A few years ago The Beresford was possibly Sydney’s trashiest pub. New owners and a total refurbishment changed all that, introducing a huge courtyard and swanky eatery popular with the locals. Change is afoot again with Justin Hemmes’ Merivale ... empire recently buying the venue and giving it another makeover. There’s an all new, mid-priced menu in the trattoria with delicious pastas and desserts, and the sharing cocktails are definitely worth a try. Rumours abound of more great things to come, including the opening of the upstairs function area.
