This converted garage just off leafy Burke St, Surry Hills is one cute cafe. I love coming here for brunch. This airy, welcoming space contains floor to ceiling book shelves stocked full of cook books and pre-loved novels for sale. There is a large wooden bench counter dividing the stainless steel kitchen from the warmly-lit dining area. It is often difficult getting a table during peak brunch hours on the weekend, often requiring a small wait. At least, I reassure my friend, the line is not as long as Burke St Bakery across the road! Once seated around a large, round solid-wood table we order coffees and brunch. The waitress is very friendly and attentive and immediately brings us some chilled tap water. We sit and enjoy watching people pass by on the street, catch up on each others gossip and peruse the weekend paper. Our meals are amazing. My friend has the date and fig pikelets which come with poached pear, rhubarb and vanilla ricotta. I am envious. However, my meal is just as divine. I have the avocado on sourdough toast with Persian fetta, poached egg, rocket and lemon infused olive oil. The eggs are perfectly poached, and the Persian fetta is delicious. What an enjoyable brunch experience, excellent food, service and atmosphere.

My friend introduced me to this place and we had a brunch on one Saturday afternoon. It was a very nice place and although it was busy, it was nowhere crowded. I was able to enjoy the space and the atmosphere of the place, which feels very comfortable and relaxing.

I ordered caesar salad with pork belly and egg benedict. From the first bite I was totally in love with the combination and they go well together without overpowering each other. Price wise, it is still in an acceptable premium range, considering its standard serving size.

I am definitely coming back to try their other food offerings.

Went here on the weekend - was freezing and raining outside and went in (for the first time) and it was a sanctuary!! - great coffee, great pancakes with pears and strawberrues, and also muffins with mixed berries and white chocolate. Yum. Great venue looking forward to having a lunch there and glass of wine

Great breakfast place to go to over the weekend. It can get pretty crowded so there is a potential to wait. The food is amazing, and extremely filling, i'm at the moment hooked on the Spanish Omelet & Blue Swimmer Crab Cake.

Came here for dinner and loved it. Cosy little restaurant, serving mainly bistro fare. Extensive array of cookbooks (local and international) to keep you amused while you wait for your food.

The best breakfast, brunch or lunch spot in Surry Hills. The food is always excellent made with great produce, simple yet great flavours. Anyone who thinks Bills is great should try the Book Kitchen but you will never go to Bills again.
