I had a similar experience to the previous reviewer. I ordered 2 cakes for an occasion that was very important to me. When I rang to confirm my order, they appeared not to have a record of it and were rude to me, refusing to fill the order at all.
Having previously bought a beautiful cake for a friend's birthday, I recommended them to all and sundry for a couple of years! After the treatment I received today, I would have to say that however lovely the cakes are, I would not risk being treated in such a rude manner again.
I ordered a birthday cake from this bakery, only to arrive and be told they had no record of ever taking the order. I accept that people make mistakes and sometimes systems are flawed, however it was what followed that shocked and dissapointed me. This bakery does have great products, but the service is poor and unreliable. Don't count on them for an important occassion ....
I bought a cake here this morning to use at a friend's farewell. The only problem was that it stole the show!
The cake was an ensemble of layered sponge, vanilla custard, apple and caramel, decorated with white chocolate and a mini apple. It looked a treat and I cut it carefully to get a perfect slice that presented wonderfully. It was full of flavour without feeling too heavy. Nor was it that expensive.
I wish they'd consider opening on a Saturday so I can get back there more easily.
Calling all residents of Canberra - why have you been keeping this place to yourselves!!!! This bakery is by far the best bakery I have ever been to. The Almond Croissants will leave you speachless...you just have to try it if you haven't.
At last Canberra has macarons. I had given up finding any but just discovered them at the Flute yesterday. And they are wonderful. Not much choice in flavours, but if enough of us pester them this will improve.
Another fantastic place to get Macarons is Beyond Q in Curtin. It is downstair at the curtin shops. They have a lady who brings them in i think every sunday and sometimes during the week but they do sell quickly. They are fantastic with wonderful flavours!
This is the best bakery ever! I would never have expected to find such great food in an industrial area in Canberra, but it really is fantastic. The coffee, pies, quiches and sandwiches are great, but it's the cakes that really stand out. Flute has a large range of cakes on offer and, after sampling almost the entire range, I have to say they were all delicious. In fact, they remind me of the sort of gourmet desserts you find in a restaurant and I would go as far as saying they're the best cakes I've had in my entire life. The white chocolate grand marnier mousse cake is definitely my favourite, but the triple chocolate mousse, berry cheesecake and lemon tart are also highly recommended. As a bonus, the prices are very reasonable and the staff are very friendly.
Although only open during normal business hours Monday to Friday, this is by far the best bakery in Canberra. In particular, their range of cakes are unique and unrivalled, particularly their mousse style cakes. Hard to describe here in words but I am salivating already. Try one!
