I recently went to the flying nun cafe with some friends and had an exceptional experience.. The weather wasn't the best and we all huddled together to avoid the rain. The place was starting to get busy so we places our order at the counter within 10mins our drinks arrived, my coffee was delicious, a further 10mins we got our meals. I ordered the "monk burger", probably the best I've ever had along with the beer battered chips.. my cousin had the vege stack which looked out of this world. we weren't even half way through our meals when a waiter said that we may use a reserved table as they weren't arriving for another 40mins.. We didn't hesitate as we wanted to get out of the rain. we all enjoyed our meals and although dessert looked mouth watering we simply couldn't fit another thing in. The flyin nun cafe is quirky, with little nooks & crannies to explore, beautiful stained glass windows, has a great atmosphere, wonderful friendly service, and best of all the food is outstanding. Im looking forward to my next visit and maybe I'll even try some of there cake.....

the food is quite pricey but it's well worth it!!!

My sister and I decided to try the Flying Nun for morning tea a couple of Sundays ago. We were not impressed, although the place was absolutely packed, with queues out the door. We eventually located a table which had not been cleared, and sat down only to find there were no menus on the table and we had to locate one. As we had my 3 year old nephew with us, we decided we'd have something easy and quick. The menu is quite large and varied, but does not cater for children particularly well, and is quite expensive. However, as it was a busy weekend in Samford (the Samford Show was on) and there were not many places to choose to eat, we decided to stay and give the Flying Nun a go. My sister had had it recommended by a friend of hers, after all. We chose our meals, I got in the queue but after 25 minutes had only moved about 3 metres closer to the counter, with at least that distance still to go. I asked one of the wait staff how long they thought it was taking to get food out to tables and she said it would be at least a 45 minute wait from when I ordered. Other people were also starting to leave, and we made the decision to as well.

We will go back again but on a quieter day, perhaps mid-week, as we have heard good things about it, but that was obviously not the day to be there.

I had the pleasure of having lunch at The Flying Nun on Sunday after a friend of mine recommend that we should make the trip to Samford and try it out. The food was stunning - I had the Pumpkin Risotto and my friend the Monk Burger and this was followed by Lemon Meringue Pie and Coffee. The food, the service and the unique setting for me was - second to none.

The food is quite good and we were regular visitors being local residents.

However on the last visit with some friends and my 20 month old daughter, after the meal I was spoken to in the rudest manner I have ever experienced. Apparently somebody had walked out because my daughter was becoming a little restless and making some noise as kids do. Thestaff asked me to leave (we had finished the meal any way) in a very rude and abrupt manner and told me that she was not happy because she had lost a customer. I was very embarrassed. I have never been asked to leave any establishment in my entire lifetime.

Now because of the rude way she spoke to me neither myself, my husband and probably any of our friends that we make aware of this encounter will visit the flying nun again. We have also recommended the flying nun in the past and will no longer continue to do so.
Therefore she did not only lose the customer that apparently walked out she has now lost many others.

I hope the owners read this message as there is a way to speak to people. I was also a paying customer and have been left very upset by the encounter.

Oh just a wonderful place to go for a relaxed dining experience. The premises are beautifully decorated and feature local artists work. The staff are helpful but unobtrusive. The coffee is supurb, the cakes are delectable and the breakfast is devine. There is something for all of the family on the lunch menu. Even my fussy teenager likes the food! Try out their scrummy juices - heavenly. A great place to go with friends for a relaxing lunch.

  • The Flying Nun Café

    Ultimate Brisbane

Half an hour’s drive from the CBD is this delightful cafe in Samford Village. Located in a lovely old church there’s ample seating inside in the ambientfilled, quirkily designed rooms, or outside in the sunny, leafy courtyard. The extensive mod-Oz menu features delicious burgers, salads and omelettes, plus an excellent range of cakes for dessert. An obvious favourite for locals and the not-so local, it’s a great excuse to get out of town and inhale some country air. Here’s a travel warning though — if you’re planning to catch a taxi back to the CBD book well in advance as we waited 50 minutes for ours to arrive.
