Really good authentic tapas, little pricey but worth it. We had to wait outside (some people sitting on milk crates!) until we could get a seat, but service was excellent and the wine and complementary olives we had made it a quick wait.

The Sydney tapas scene has scene some new additions of late, particularly around the Surry Hills area. The Flying Squirrel is a golden oldie by comparison.

Situated on buzzing Bondi Road, its not often you see this place without people spilling out the door in the hope of getting a table. Once you get inside, you can see why the atmosphere is intimate and trendy, without being pretentious. The place is filled with cool Bondi locals nibbling on the likes of stuffed zucchini flowers, chorizo and white beans, handmade Dory and prawn ravioli and salt and pepper squid.

If you think the food sounds impressive, the cocktail list is even better. The attentive staff will recommend something according to what your palate desires and I dont think Id believe you if you told me you were disappointed.

Do yourself a favour and dont leave without trying the chocolate brownie it will literally melt your tastebuds right off your tongue.

I didn't have a good experience last time I was here. I thought the food was overpriced and the portions were ridiculously small. We came out hungry and ended up getting a burger from the take away place neear by. The wine menu was good.

A great local. Low-key, comfortable surroundings, service with a smile, great food and a vast alcohol selection.

The type of place you go to for dinner and end up stumbling out a few hours later, belly full, a few two many vinos and a sense of contentment!

Food is tapas style- love the prawns, lamb and zucchini flowers..

Only downside, is you can't book unless you have a group of six or more, and being a popular little haunt, sometimes you just cant get in...

The Flying Squirrel is a delicious very cool/trendy discrete small Tapas restaurant.
The pre drinks are rather exciting, tastey & creative. For example: a BloodyMary is made with Clamato juice instead of tomato juice - which is just as good, if not better & is nice for something different to try.
The Salt & Pepper Squid dish are massive pieces of squid - largest I've ever had in my life anywhere- very tastey & a must.
The Beetle leaves,Mixed olive antipasto dish & meatballs are great starters as well.
Be mindful of the Potato & mayo dish as it can be too rich. All mains are fantastic imparticular the Beef which is very tender & fab flavours - highly recommand trying.
For dessert the chocolate fudge pudding with vanilla ice cream goes without saying. The inside of this delight is hot soft chocolate that pours out like a fountain from the inside - any chocolate lovers heaven.
Service isn't too bad. no bookings are taken & upto 20mins can be expected to get a table.
    worth it!

This is a great place, but be warned - There was No Squirrel on the Menu when we attended. Its a seasonal dish and available in the Spring only. Otherwise, select from the vast menu, and you will have a great nite.
