The Garden, attached to the Leederville Hotel, is a breath of fresh air for those wanting a casual, Sunday afternoon basking in the sun. With the expansive outdoor area, casual live music playing in the background, and tasty menu The Garden is an inimitable addition to life in Leederville.

THERE is barely enough room here to cope with the rave that The Garden warrants, so prepare for some grudging restraint.
The Garden is terrific. It’s cheerful. It has a buzz. It has staff without attitude. It has a great mix of punters. They’re wheeling their babies under long communal timber tables, they’re picnicking with deli items on the grassed area outside. They’re smiling, laughing and enjoying eating out together. There’s a very experienced team of Perth businessmen behind this venture, which occupies a central spot in the quality enclave of Leederville um, that is apart from its neighbour, The Leederville Hotel. The Garden used to be the old band room of the pub and the area was recently redeveloped to create a tavern cum eatery that provides the unpretentious, relaxed style of dining that we all love but with a curious, unpredictable twist, which elevates it from the boring.

Strolling into any renovated venue can be daunting. Will a dash of pretension be part of the upgrade? Not here. Staff in Steve Irwin safari shirts welcomed us into the classy, city-chic-meets-outback-charm restaurant, but mood lighting and padded stools reminded us that we weren’t really out bush.
My buddy and I were pleased to see share plates that equated to fairly wallet-friendly deals. And you can’t expect amazing things from $6 glasses of wine, but my mate’s full-bodied red was certainly worth a good swill around the palate. The rillette entree was served in a jam jar – cute – along with another teeny jar of olive oil and balsamic with slices of lightly toasted baguette. The pork was succulent without being too fatty and the olive oil was fresh and grassy. We’d barely dug down to the halfway mark on our jar of rillette when the main course arrived.
