The Hotel Windsor

Directions
The Hotel Windsor has played an important role in shaping this nations history.
Over 125 years, movie stars, sporting greats, politicians and famous singers have graced the opulent rooms and hallways of the Hotel Windsor; its grand ballroom was even the sight for the drafting of the Australian constitution.

Sitting four stories tall, with over 180 rooms and 20 suites the Hotel Windsor remains Australia's only independent Grand Hotel. Each room is elegantly appointed capturing the charm and grace of a bygone era, not without all the contemporary comforts one would expect from a Grand Hotel.

Located on Spring Street opposite Parliament House, Treasury gardens and right next to the Princess Theatre the Hotel Windsor sits in the heart of Melbourne and is walking distance to most of the cities landmarks and attractions.

Winning the Hotel Club Awards for best hotel in Victoria in 2008 and having made the gold list for the Conde Nast Traveller in 2006 and 2007 it is no surprise that the Hotel Windsor is held in such high esteem.
Having contributed so much already to the rich history of this nation, come and be a part of the continuing story of the Hotel Windsor.

The Windsor Hotel oozes with luxury and prestige. Unfortunately we booked a 'Superior' room and regretted not upgrading. The room was on the second floor and unfortunately we could hear the room directly above us very clearly. We were awoken both mornings by loud banging and arose grumpy and frustrated. While I recognise this is no fault of the hotel, if I stayed at the Windsor again I would fork out for a better (hopefully quieter) room. My only other gripe was that we did not have a view at all, which was again due to our room choice. The old-world decor was fantastic, staff attentive and atmosphere wonderful! The Windsor's position made it possible to walk the distance to Chinatown, Fed square and the MCG. Look out for room upgrades or specials!

The Windsor stands alone with its old world charm. It is an extremely romantic place. Nothing else like it in Australia and one of few anywhere else.

The Windsor Hotel is a Melbourne institution. Great old-worlde feel here. You must experience the high tea - beautiful scones, cakes and sandwiches with an extensive tea list and wonderful service. The weekend chocolate fountain is a must-do!

Honouring this grand tradition for years – since 1883 in fact – the Windsor does tea as it should be done: cucumber sarnies, delicate tisanes and of course their speciality, warm raisin and vanilla scones. Chocolate and ice cream sneak onto the menus of a weekend. Well there’s always Monday for the diet, right?
