Great place to go on a cold Melbourne afternoon for lunch. We went with friends last weekend and ended up staying for dinner. Reasonably priced too. Great food.

Went to this little hidden gem with some friends the other day. It was my first time but the 3rd in a few months for my friends who are foodies to the max so that in itself speaks volumes! They gave me the inside skinny on some recent history. New owners, new management, new chef! A clean sweep of the people. Luckily the hotel itself seems to not have changed. Yep its got character not one of those nouveau faux fancy places that keep popping every corner. This looks to be a bit of a hipster haven if the staff & half the punters are any indication. They have a decent number of beers on tap & a $10 jugs for a "breakings ale" but I could have gotten the name wrong...anyway, the food! A decent offering avail but the sign of success was that nearly all sounded tempting to me & I had trouble choosing. I went for the "carpet bag steak" - eye fillet stuffed with oysters, served atop a bed of mash with green beens & peppercorns! C'est Magnifique! mmmm! Also sampled a "spaghetti & meatballs" which was served in a hollowed out cob loaf & was oh so tasty, but the highlight was definitely the few mouthfulls of t bone dianne I stole from my mate. I have to say it was the best hunk of meat I can remember tasting recently. The decor is kitschy & cute. The meals are sizeable & good value. This is far from my local but makes me consider moving just so it can be!

Value for money is amazing, the size of the over the counter meals are huge and very tasty.
