Reviews of The Sandwich Shop
What an awesome little find! Just moved to Surry Hills and I'm loving the wide range of cafes/ restaurants. This places does a really cheap lunch, $7.50 for a big and tasty toasted sandwich. I had the BLT and it was everything I wanted. Really tasty and the staff are really friendly.
In a quest of finding more quick lunch options at the borders of Haymarket, Central, and Surry Hills, I decided to take myself to Devonshire St, an area popular amongst the working locals for their lunch needs and found myself at this small, modern-looking sandwich shop appropriately named as The Sandwich Shop.
Although the shop is more of a takeaway shop (with only a few seats available on the sides and outside), the place has a clean dcor and relaxing atmosphere, with the menu neatly laid out on the wall.
I ordered a pulled pork sandwich filled with coleslaw. It was made pretty quickly. The sandwich was appropriately sized. I can personally say that it was of standard quality but it felt more like a burger rather than a sandwich. I also found it to be rather dry.
They also sell salads (which I would probably get the next time I visit) and also the good old brownies that will stare you from the side whilst you order!
I popped in to The Sandwich Shop after ordering my takeaway coffee from Single Origin and was pleasantly surprised at the atmosphere and the menu on offer. I only ordered some toast with avocado to go, but the bread (supplied by Brasserie Bread) was great and the prices were extremely reasonable. Would definitely revisit!
I was really excited when I heard about the opening of this store as I was starting to tire of the options for lunch.
While the menu is great and they have a good basic range of sandwiches, salads and breakfast options at reasonable prices, the service needs work. Be warned, you will have to wait at least 15 minutes for your order at lunchtime which is not acceptable when you are not eating in.Also the service felt a bit disorganised.
The salads could be better but the emphasis here is the sandwiches. I was happy to find that everything here is under $10 which is really good for Surry Hills. I'll try it out again to see if the service improves over time but I can justify waiting 10min to order and then another 15 minutes to get my food. I may as well sit at a cafe in that time.
