  • To The Winery

The Winery has arrived in Surry Hills

The Winery, on Surry Hills' Crown Street is sister venue to Elizabeth Bay's Gazebo.

Whether you're just popping in for a drink or planning something more substantial you'll find something on the menu to suit from starters and sharing plates to hearty mains and an impressive wine list.

--TrueLocal description--
Yes, it?s another new outpost of the Gazebo empire ? this time across the CBD in happening Surry Hills ? and it?s already a Mecca for Sydney?s style set. Whether mingling on the terrace, getting cosy in a booth or hosting an intimate soiree in the Elvis-inspired Gracelands private room, this is a luxe place to see and be seen. And if you get bored in the bar, you can amuse yourself with a game of giant chess outside in the laneway. A must see.

The Winery for me is like a great oasis in the centre of a busy Surry Hills. The two level indoor areas is a experimental, modern Victorian feel atmosphere with rule-bending design twists on its dcor, which then extends to its veranda, covered porch, and spacious outdoor garden with backyard feel.

My last visit to The Winery was on a late afternoon on New Years Day and they had live DJ playing modern lounge-esque music, enhancing the places already cosy ambience.

Some of food offerings are quite uniquely curated and thus priced on a premium. We ordered pork belly salad and it was a great dish with soft meat and watermelon to freshen up the palate. We also ordered their spanner crab pasta which tasted very clean and heart-warming.

With its effortless, busy kitchen look, the food presentation were quite average but it worked well. Both dishes had average serving sizes, which definitely allowed us with room for me.

Despite not being too busy, the food took quite a bit of a wait that day (approximately 30 minutes for one salad dish and one main dish).

The staffs were very friendly and attentive, and kept refilling our water without us requesting and the table was immediately cleaned right after we finished our meal.

Visited last night with a group of seven for dinner. Be warned- they don't take bookings after 4:30pm, so be prepared to wait for a table (unless of course you're organised and book for dinner before 4:30!) We waited 40 minutes in the upstairs lounge, staff kept us updated. Food was good, we enjoyed Monday-special-'double steak'. This involved two courses of steak. Lots of creative starters, radish and sausage roll entrees in particular were very nice. Trendy and eclectic atmosphere, large area spread over different levels. Refreshingly open, especially Surry Hills. Fantastic service, plenty of staff. We paid $60 pp, this included drinks. Decent value, you get what you pay for.

This place is beautiful. Catch it on a sunny day and sit outside and drink san gria. The indoor area is wonderfully decorated and the service is top notch. Only reason it doesnt get 5 stars is because its pretty pricey.

Bring a date here, a group of friend, work function - it caters for all.

The wine menu is divine with plenty of international and local choices. The Barra in a bag is delish as is the Tuna.
The lighting in the evening is quite romantic and there's plenty of room between tables. Its also good venue to kick off mid Saturday afternoon with a group of friends.

Really fun place, good for dates. The lights are dim and lots of outdoor space. Drinks are pricey like lots of places around, but the ambience is really garden-party -esque!! very nice!
