At Thesaurus Books, we love people who love books

Thesaurus Books, founded in 1978, is owned and managed by locals Luke and Judy Macartney. With over thirty years of experience, we offer our customers the ultimate book buying experience, providing an extensive range of titles and the best customer service available.

Incorporating an ABC Centre, we also offer customers access to music and DVDs, including the latest in ABC, SBS and BBC products. With such a wide range of children's and adults' titles, Thesaurus has become a literary oasis for discerning book buyers in Melbourne's southern suburbs.

Here at Thesaurus Books, we are proud to be members of Leading Edge Booksellers. This gives us, and therefore you, our customers, access to the greatest range of titles at the best prices possible. We are proudly independent and pride ourselves on our ability to meet all your literary needs. With an in store range of over 30,000 titles including general fiction, crime, non-fiction, history, cooking, gardening, travel, children's and more, we are sure to have something for everyone. We have access to an array of distributors, including overseas distributors, allowing you to avoid the uncertainties of purchasing online. Anything not already on our shelves we will endeavour to obtain for you as swiftly as possible.

To assist you with purchasing the perfect product, all of our staff are familiar with the stock and, more importantly, are passionate about the product they are selling. All of us here at Thesaurus keep up to date with the latest releases and, whatever your taste in books, one of our friendly, experienced staff members will be able to make recommendations to suit your needs. We believe it is important to care about the product we sell and this is reflected in our staff, who are all more than willing to help you.

I am very sorry Mr Corporate Traveller ( name undisclosed) found us to be rude and unhelpful. That is certainly not our intention. I guess in the 35 years we have been in business we have not been rude to everyone. we will strive to be as helpful as we can to everyone.
I can only guess that Mr Corporate Traveller is very hard to please after looking at his 32 reviews.

This is a wonderful bookshop. The staff is knowledgeable about all things literary and I can happily browse all day. I always find a books I want to read. A few years ago I won voucher for $100 donated by Thesaurus Bookshop to the Bayside Literary Festival. It is a community minded bookshop.

The staff here are EXTREMELY helpful they go out of their way to help find what you are looking for. My daughter loves this store and there is always something to purchase. Great range of books and good place to shop for gifts.

The parking is quite good here if I have to run in for something. I won't be needing much anymore until the children are in school but I will surely be using this store when I do as it is a one stop shop for all research style books. Would be a great place for secondary and tertiary students needing study supplies as I think they could achieve their entire list of study needs here in the one place.
