What to expect at Toscanis Caf at Southbank?

Lengthy delay (50min on caf meals) with poor communication from staff
    Served the incorrect meal
Have missing components to your dish
    Have missing dishes all together
Served a sloppy inedible cold pizza
    Wait 15min for missing components
Hear the manager swear about you then try and Help you
A lingering sick feeling of having your time wasted, being ripped off and talked to by a manager who knows one word Busy.

I should have known better when the 3 tables around me ate half their meals and left within 15min of being served. On ordering our meal the service was excellent. The waiter obviously spoke English as a second language and needed to come back and confirm the order. He did this professionally and was very courteous.

That is where the professionalism stopped. The caf meal took over 50min to come out. A waitress came over after 20min and told us that there was a small delay in the kitchen and our meal would be out soon. For the next 30min we waited as our child slowly climbing the walls, hungry for her kids pizza.

Once her pizza came it was less than acceptable. The Pizza was cold and I know for a fact that it sat on the servery for 10min before being served. I know this because my little girl watched and eagerly waited for it. The topping was basically cheese slop by the time it was received. My child wouldnt touch it and frankly neither would I.

As the rest of our meal goes, (Mezze Platter & Arancini) the platter was incomplete missing Chorizo and the Arancini was forgotten and needed to be followed up. 5min later the missing Arancini arrived and 15min later the chorizo arrived just as my wife went to pay and make a complaint about the meal. This sort of wait in a caf is unacceptable and the lack of communication, the incorrect meals and the meal quality was worthy of a complaint.

To cap off the experience when my wife went to pay and make our complaint the manger was asked by her staff to assist us and swore openly which was not a good start. The manager held a resentment and attitude, which did not help the situation. Unfazed that the meal was incorrect the manager had no interest in listening and simply told us they were busy. Not an uncommon problem to deal with in hospitality but managed by the Toscanis manager with complete incompetence. Enough so that I need to write this ridiculous email sounding like another complaining customer.

Today at Toscanis at Southbank the staff and in particular the manager let your business down. I will always discourage anyone from going to your caf in the future

There are not many places in the world you would end up paying for a meal like this. Most places would realise they messed up. Poor form Toscanas

Dont go. Dont take kids. I wont be back.

Do not go here, the service is just awful, we were told where to sit and it was table that had not been cleared. And they did not clear it for about 20 mins.the staff through down the menus on the table. I ordered the bruschetta with feta cheese it arrived with no feta, when I asked for some the staff simply said 'yeah we have none had a busy weekend and walked off!!! I was so close to walk away. They did not even apologise. Big tip spend your money in some other restaurant where you will get decent service and better food. It's too busy so they have the attitude there's always more customers. I saw other tables waiting over an hour for their food.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch with my girlfriends at Toscanis Southbank. The pasta dishes were to die for especially the garlic prawn fettucine. Service was friendly and they didn't rush us out the door. It was very handy for public transport as some of us don;t drive. Recommend for lovely view of the world going by on a Sunday avo!

Stopped at Toscani's for mid-week dinner last week, on the way to a show. Staff didn't say hello, plunked down our menus. Drinks order took 15 mins to arrive. One of our bread plates was filthy with caked on food - staff went "ugh that's gross" when they went to put it down, offered to bring us another one, but a new one never arrived. We had to ask for one after our bread order was delivered (and then had to ask for bread knife, which was not brought out with the new plate). Bruschetta was okay but cob loaf was awful - almost impossible to chew, like it had been heated in a microwave. Main meals (pizza & pastas) were average - hot and edible but not enjoyed. Had to signal staff to get second drinks long after we'd finished our first, then waited another 15 mins without them arriving. By this time we'd had enough and decided to cancel the drinks and go. The bill was incorrect and the staff insisted on maintaining that "lasagne is not pasta, it's lasagne" and was therefore not included in the $15 pasta and pizza deal, even though lasagne is clearly in the pasta list on the menu! The savings on this deal were minimal so we didn't argue (it was only for small sized pastas, most of which are around $15 anyway). Staff seemed completely uneducated - the management had to come over to explain the $15 deal, as the staff hadn't even heard of it and we had to point them to the big poster on the window. Overall, really terrible service and average to below-average food. Very disappointing experience.

Firstly I must begin by commending the service as it was the only thing keeping me from walking out entirely dissapointed.

The food however was simply awful. I went there for breakfast on a Saturday, was served immediately with a smile. I ordered eggs Benedict with salmon and extra spinach plus a coffee. The coffee was great and everything came out in reasonable time. When my meal arrived it looked quite ordinary from first glance, just thrown together, which isn't such a big deal as it is breakfast but it definitely left me hoping it tasted much better than it looked. Which it most certainly didn't. The eggs were overcooked, the bread was soggy and saturated in Vinegar - the eggs were obviously not drained/strained when they were taken from the water/vinegar preparation as the vinegar taste overpowered the whole dish - it was unedible. In addition to this the extra spinach I ordered was not on the plate.

I then informed the staff that I couldn't eat it because of the above reasons and asked me if I wanted another meal cooked to which I agreed. The second attempt came out WITHOUT spinach, WITHOUT salmon but with the same overpowering vinegar taste and saturated bread. The hollandaise sauce was cold and semi-solid and covered most of the plate in addition to tasting simply awful - I couldn't believe it, who is cooking this?

If the meal was $10 it still wouldn't be acceptable but it was $16! I would and have paid much more than this for a decent breakfast elsewhere but what I was served TWICE was totally unacceptable.

Our dining experience was atrocious. The only saving light was that we were served quickly, initially.
We got our menus and ordered quickly, before having to wait 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive, okay, they might be busy, so we cut them some slack. In that 20 minutes one of the other staff came over to serve us (alarm bells start ringing, has our order actually gone in??) we told the staff we'd ordered, all good. So the drinks finally arrive one wine, one beer, one soft drink and one iced coffee. 15 minutes later the satff comes back to tell us they are out of one of the meals we've ordered. Seriously? 35 minutes to tell us you haven't got what we've ordered? At least two other tables have been and gone in the time we're sitting there.

Half an hour later, three of the four meals arrive, the replacement meal has gone astray, our second round of drinks have gone astray, it was that bad we told them to keep the second round of drinks and missing meal. Worst still the three meals we got, not one of us finished, not because they were huge or filling, they were just ordinary. We had places to be, we paid, and left, never to return again.

Not the first time we've been treated to bad service there, but we don't mind giving a second chance, everyone has an off night.

Consider yourselves warned, by all accounts go, just don't have high expectations.

Not the ultimate dining experience, but quite reasonable for lunch or for coffee with friends. Sizes are good, a lot of variety and not overly priced. Sometimes the service isn't reliable enough.
