  • To Town Hall Hotel
Town Hall Hotel in Newtown still has many elements of a traditional local pub, unlike the many newly refurbished pubs and clubs in the area. To the locals the Town Hall Hotel is better known as the “Townie”. Despite its rustic feel and atmosphere, it is still a good place to relax and watch the street traffic go by.

    Hello,
Swang by here for dinner on the way fo the Enmore Theatre. The dinner was good for what it was. Had the chicken parma. Staff unwelcoming glances. Even with the renovation the place lacks warmth and is unfriendly. The service at the bistro seems affective. They seem unable to smile while i was there and just going throu the movements. Hope i just had bad timing with my vist. Will be willing to give it another chance but not in a rush thou.
    Cheers.

Really odd. It seems this place has such a high turnover of bar andf security staff - and yet they're all endlessly, perpetually some of the rudest people I've ever had the misfortune of giving my money to. A security guard threatended to kick me out once because I was limping ( I'd just had knee surgery.) My mate was kicked out for being drunk ( he doesn't drink).... This place brings immense shame to the 'hospitality' industry....0 stars.

I sick and tired of being turned away from these places with the lame rason, "I'm sorry, but you've had too much to drink" . I no longer try anymore and spend my hard earnt money in small bars or pubs I know I can get into. The final straw came on my birthday, when about half of the people who tried to meet me where turned down at the door. I rang management the next day and after been told they were drunk, which they weren't, I simply said that I and many others are over being treated like Childern and will spend our money somewhere else.

The popularity of this place is based entirely on the fact that "Its so bad it's good." I just don't see why people give a venue with such terrible service and shocking attitude their money and patronage.. "It's so bad it's...bad!"

This place, more than any other, represents exactly whats wrong with Sydney's pub culture. Ego-driven bouncers married with uncapable management and staff, who think its an actual privelidge to walk into this pit.

This pit needs to learn to value their patrons.

Too many times has entry been refused by an overzealous bouncer claiming "had too much to drink"

however, last time the words from the bouncer were "we don't want you in here if you are NOT drinking"

I am over the place, everything it has going for it is ruined by the security staff

Dirty, Dingy and I love it. The Townie is a genre-defining establishment - the archetype of horrible Inner West holes. If you haven't caught yourself in this joint at 3am pashing your best friend's girlfriend's unattractive workmate next to the beer-soaked pool table whilst throwing air-punches to 80s Fleetwood Mac hits, you haven't lived. Well, you heaven't lived in Sydney anyway. A true institution.

dirty, dingy and populated by the sort of folk that'll have you feeling your back pocket every few minutes to check that your wallet's still there!

A coldie (at a good price, I must say) on the balcony overlooking the rat race on King St still has its appeal!

Rough as guts, but it's open 24-7 so you'll probably end up there eventually.
