Rum is one of the hottest drink trends in the country right now. So much so that a bar dedicated solely to the spirit operates upstairs at the Union Hotel.

For some reason I have always had a liking for this pub. Maybe it was because when I was much younger I came here and had a really good time, but what actually happen has been lost in the mists of the past. However that feeling about this place has not changed, and even with my most recent visit I still quite like the place. This is also one of those pubs that I have frequented on many occasions, whether it be for a couple of drinks with friends, or for lunch with my work colleagues, it has always been a pleasant place to while away the time. There was even a time I would stop by here on the way home (despite it being a little out of my way) to have a beer and sit out the back with book (though I must say that there are better beer gardens, but then again they are making the best of what space they have available.

Really good deal with their pizza specials - especially coming in on a Monday or Tuesday, you cant go wrong with a deliciously made pizza for 6 or 8 bucks!!

Had dinner with a couple girlfriends and we decided to share two pizzas and the antipasto platter. So filling! We had to take the left over pizza home. The pizza bases were great, the flavors we chose weren't as nice as we thought they would be though. Had a good night for a weeknight at least.

Had lunch here today for the first time, sat outside in the little outdoor dining area they had at the back. Wasn't table service, but that was ok, service in general was quick and friendly. My friend and I both ordered the Wagyu Beef Schnitzel, it was huge! 300g. I did what I could but was so full. It was pretty good and the price wasn't bad either!
  • The food is nice, but generally pretty expensive for what it is - just decent pub grub. When the dining room is full you wait a while for your meals, and you always need a booking - it's a popular place for work lunches and the dining room is pretty small.

Super loud when I came here on a Friday night a couple weeks back. It was that loud we could not even hear ourselves talk. It was a mixture of the really loud DJ playing and people all around us yelling over the top of each other to have a conversation. I personally was glad we were only meeting here as a meeting point and moving onwards for dinner because I really could not hear myself think. I still would give this place a go for dinner maybe on a week night when it's more quiet and less busy... I hear the burgers are really good.

This is one of my "never fail" pub lunch spots. The food is always excellent - the burgers are my personal favourite - but I've never heard anyone complain about their meal regardless of what they've ordered. It's usually really busy but there's never a long wait.
  • Love this place on a Friday night, the retro music can be a bit hit and miss but there is always lots of cute girls and it's not too crowded so you don't have to worry about lining up to get in. There are two huge couches which are basically like beds however dont fall asleep on them otherwise you will get kicked out. There is a beer garden at the back and some tables and chairs outside the front for the smokers. The Union also has a restaurant although I cant comment on the food because Ive never eaten there. The bar is also quite accessible, not one of those places where you have to wait for hours to get served. If youre looking for a place to go on a Friday night with a nice vibe, lots of eye candy but not too busy then this place is worth checking out.
  • Great choice of food ranging from your standard pub classics to tasty mains and tapas if you just want a quick bite. service is exceptional, hard working and polite staff even at the busiest of times. definitely a place to pop into for all occasions!

Schnitzels are popular here but they have plenty of other choices for the discerning diner - large serves, variety and excellent quality. Naturally they have a great selection of wines and the atmosphere is cosy and warm in Winter with an oasis of an outdoors area for the warmer weather. Service at The Union is always very good. Try upstairs for decadent club feel.
