Set within an 1800's heritage building, The Willoughby Hotel has withstood the test of time to become an iconic north shore landmark. Although retaining many period features, the interior has been renovated and decked out with sophisticated, modern furnishings, making the atmosphere chic and cosy. There is an outdoor deck, which is undercover making it suitable for year round use. Happy hour is on everyday except Saturday, from 5pm-7pm and two for one meals all day on Thursdays will please the budget and the appetite.

I came here with a Living Social Group Buy Meal Voucher. The Scotch fillet steak was chewy, tough, & had a large percentage of fat down one side. I'd requested it medium but it arrived red & bloody on the inside & not cooked properly. This wouldn't have been a big issue had the steak been good quality. I was very disappointed as for a $28 steak you'd expect better quality. I've had better $10 steaks. After leaving negative but honest feedback on the experience with Living Social, the Management responded through Living Social Merchant Response apologizing for the meal quality, offering a round of drinks & providing their Willoughby Hotel email for me to follow up the matter. Living Social forwarded this response to me. Anyway, I sent the management a polite email detailing my experience prompted by their suggestion to follow up the matter. I never got a reply. I won't return as I've no desire to gamble on meal quality.
The new menu is fantastic! I'd recommend it to fully to anyone looking for a good pub food or some classic steaks and seafood! We had the salt and pepper prawn soft tacos! They were unreal! Make sure to say hi to Jason, a top bloke and a top chef!
The return of old chef Khan has made us return to The Willoughby for the first time in a number of months and the difference is obvious. The food quality is excellent and the service fantastic. It is easy to see why he won so many awards when he was in charge of the kitchen in the past. The great selection of steaks and craft beers make this a simple yet fantastic choice as a restaurant or a pub. Can't wait til the Rugby season kicks off for the chance to come down more often!
How disappointing to go to the management and complain about the food (dry over cooked curry and rubbery rice this time!) - which I feel has been not good since the chef changed September 2010 - only to be told I was rude and asked to leave. I was not repeat not angry or aggressive...perhaps a little over zealous in my descriptions of the food...but that was all! I will not go back nor will I ever recommend anybody go there.
