The Yoshinoya story dates back well over a century to 1899 when Mr Matsuda opened a gyudon restaurant in the bustling Tokyo fish markets. Yoshinoya has somewhat of a quirky cult following in Japan. Even Sony Playstation have created a game about Yoshinoya to satisfy the Japanese love for this product. Come in and try our specialty - the gyudon (beef bowl). Teriyaki chicken, grilled beef, vegetarian and curry bowls are also available. Delicious udon noodles are also available! Everything is made to order and is fresh for you! Fairly basic stuff - the beef tastes like it's come straight out of the freezer into the frying pan but I suppose I shouldn't have expected much more for a takeaway joint! There are a number of other similar places nearby where you can get similar cuisine for similar prices. The main thing Yoshinoya has going for it is convenience & speed.
Meat and rice. Meat and rice. Yoshinoya built its reputation using this simple formula in (of all places) Tokyo's fish market....
I was looking forward to seeing the Australian 'Yoshinoya', however it was a bit of a let down. Nothing at all like the original that we 'gaijin' have all grown to love.
Yoshinoya in Tokyo is a novelty in that it is incredibly fast, ridiculously cheap, and absolutely delicious. Sydney's version on the other hand is rather slow, average priced, and tastes ordinary.
It's kind of cool, but still does not compare to the 'real' Yoshinoya.
As far as Japanese fast food restaurants in the city go, Yoshinoya can hold its own.
Clean, efficient and friendly, service is quick and unobtrusive.
Though Yoshinoya is famous for its beef and salmon bowls, I personally like their new addition to the menu: Udon bowl.
Great tasting and flavourful, it has just the right amounts of shredded beef, seaweed and crabmeat.
The chicken karage side dish is a hit-and-miss, and the dumplings are just okay.
But if you are after something quick and easy, this will hit the spot.
Good Japanese food but not the best. I didn't find anything spectacular about the food offerred in the menu after trying most of them (due to its close proximity to the company I used to work with). Prices are the same as most Japanese restaurant dotting the area.
I was so excited to finally be able to eat in Yoshinoya Australia. In Japan and Hong Kong there are lots of this restaurant, some of them even open 24 hours!! I tried the Beef Bowl and the taste match to the one in Hong Kong. I would love to dine in more often, but only if you offer more food varieties!!
Ganbatte Yoshinoya!!
The gyoza here rock! The deep fried chicken (karage) also is good. They are nice little side dishes!
For a Japanese fast food restaurant - this place is great. Zip in and out so quickly and the most awesome beef bowl. Yum yum yum!!!
Japanese fast food place. Great selection of set meals to choose from. The dumplings there are very impressive too.
Put simply, this is the Japanese food equivalent of fast food. Predominantly they serve Gydon which is a bowl of beef and rice. The prices are very cheap but, like all fast food, it just doesn't quite taste like it should. On the other hand it's a good alternative to burgers if you're looking for a cheap, small meal.
