  • To Young Alfred
Young Alfred is a contemporary, buzzing eatery in the new Customs House, Sydney. Modern Australian and Italian food is served from breakfast through until dinner, with a selection of pizzas, pasta, a few mains and pastries on offer. Quality coffee and Australian wines should appeal.

We came here in a group of 17 last week for a farewell lunch. When we arrived, no one was there to greet us, and we pretty much had to look for a waiter, who then told us to go the counter (which is located right inside the restuarant).

They have a great selection of wines (although a bit pricey) and a good selections of pizzas (we ordered two of every kind.) We also ordered some starters (anitpasto platter and some bruschetta), which were quite good.

The pizzas were also quite good although I would stay away from the seafood pizza - seafood on a pizza doesn't really work, and at Young Alfred this was evidently clear. There was just too much seafood in shells (pippies and mussels) on the pizza, and it was just too much hard work to eat the pizza (you shouldn't have to pull apart shells when having pizza.)

In terms of service, I did find it to be a bit lacking, however it was the week before Christmas and they were quite busy.

In terms of value, it is not bad, and if you are in the area and are looking for good pizza, then pop by the Young Alfred.

My partner and I love the pizzas here. They are the best pizzas I have ever had! The service isn't great, and the waiters aren't particularly friendly. The pizza is so good however, that we keep coming back! Definitely worth a try.

Really nice pizzas...try the Dr Suess. Great to sit outside on a summer's day and people watch. They do takeaway pizzas too...if you're working late and need a bite to eat. It can get a little noisy inside at lunch time.
