My girl friend and I had breakfast here this morning. The coffee was not overly impressive however it was good to see that they used real tea instead of tea bags in a pot. The real winner for me was the food. Real German home made style apricot jam was and eggs bennidict were just perfect. Compliments to the chef. Both meals were a perfect size and proportion not leaving us wanting more of something and less of something else.
While the coffee was not amazing I would strongly recommend breakfast here.
    Cheers

I am a third generation Randwick resident with my father and his mother being born in a hospital near the cnr Belmore and Alison (since demolished) I graduated from UNSW in 2011 having lived in randwick during it's time.

    Here here E.K. Well said..

I bought coffees every now and then as I thought couldn't always taste so bad. Every time it was burnt or something as EK suggested. And I believe it is ok to judge technique as it is all part n parcel. Everyone can tell when a good barrista is a work.

On these occasions I would get takeaway and stop at one of the outside tables to have a ciggerett which has ask trays provided. An older later who works there told me I couldn't sit as had bought take away. :(

Yes I bought TA but wanted to enjoy smoke and cigg before I continued. If she is a manager then I can see were the bad tempered man EK mentioned gets his attitude..

I have been to this establishment on numerous occasions for breakfast with my family. Good eggs with hollandaise sauce though (eggs benedict And florentine are two separate dishes). Which always disappoints me as it displays the chef or cook as it seems doesn't no the difference. All excusable if not for previously mentions rudeness...

Will never patronise your "cafe" again

No half way decent cafe will let you sit and drink take away coffee which is cheaper whilst sit down customers pay more. There are two signs at the counter that specifically say no take away at tables.

The best coffee in Sydney without a doubt I just have to have one or two every morning just to get through the day.

The food is excellent there is a great choice and they have a specials board which changes often.

I eat there often as well and if the food wasn't good I wouldn;t go back/

If you pass Zellini's you'll be the one missing out.

After tasting Mocca and Flat white, coffees that we have been drinking for years, both of us were disappointed with its taste. Both coffees tasted funny, bitter, unsweet and watery. After only one sip we had to spit it out - thats how bad it was. It was very disappointing since we both wanted to enjoy a nice cup of coffee on Saturday morning. We decided that the product was not worth $ 7.00, and I went back to the shop to tell them about it in the nicest possible way, with the hope that our experience will prevent future customers complaints and/or disappointments (This could have been a number of common things that happens sometimes, such as burned beans, blocked machine, left over residue, etc).

After I left my husband with kids on the playground, I went back to the shop and told the bar attender who was making coffee at that time that the coffees we paid for were not good and tasted funny. I handed him the coffees and said that I would like a refund. I mean I have tasted my Mocca in different places, some were excellent and some were not as good but drinkable, but these were not even a slight resemblance of Mocca or Flat white. There was no taste of chocolate (Mocca is a mix of both coffee and chocolate) nor coffee and the taste of both was bitter.

Without further listening to my comments about my coffees, the bar man abruptly said what kind of coffees I bought, which I told him thinking he wanted to find out the price for both in order to give me the correct refund. After standing there for a few minutes I realised that he started making another one for me. I said to him, that I just wanted a refund since the next coffees would probably taste the same if the problem was not fixed. The bar attender then got aggressive and started to yell that they've been doing these coffees for 15 years and that I have no business of telling them how to do it. On which I responded that I was not criticising their technique and that it could be a number of things, not only the technique and that their coffees tasted funny. But he was not listening to what I had to say. He then almost threw the money at me by smashing the $6.10 down on the counter. He you go sort of thing. I looked at him and said that a simple sorry would be nice and that his attitude was inappropriate. He said: yeah, yeah.
Instead of simply refunding the money, which by the way costs $6.60 and not $6.10 he gave me. But it does not matter. What really matters here the behaviour and response of businesses and their staff members when a customer comments on something that is not right. The customers should not be felt guilty and/or face a rude and bad attitude of service providers for returning unsatisfying products. It is our right as consumers to get a good and satisfying product, and if it is not the case, to get a refund with no rude or aggressive inappropriate behaviour. Whatever happened to customer is always right? That bar attender had no manners whatsoever on how to behave with the customers. Leaving in eastern suburbs for almost 20 years I have never experienced such a rude response from any businesses. I am truly disappointed in the service that Zellinis have provided and my family would never ever go there again.

I have been having coffee at Zellini's 7 days a week for more than 5 years and have never had a bad cup. Nor have I come across an aggressive bar attendant. This review seems very harsh especially considering that the coffee would have been half cold by the time you got to the playground.

My wife and I went here a lot when we lived up the road. Consistently good food, open all day too for breaky, lunch and dinner. Service can be a little hit and miss but is forgivable. BYO too for dinner.
