Have used AVIS 4 times in the last two months. Helpful (if a tad apathetic staff) never any problems with pick up / returns. Call centre responded quickly. Able to use frequent flyers when connected with Jetstar flight & accrue when not. Rented a range of cars, from a Hyundai accent to a Yaris - all clean and in good order, very few Kms so like new.
Definitely my preferred rental car service.

Credit card must be same as name on the licence. I went to discuss - definitely store policy. "I don't have a credit card, my wife does - but she's at home with our baby. Can I pay in cash? Is there any other way around this?"
"No - your wife can come in - with her baby - and use her foreign licence to be the primary driver, even though she won't be driving. Then you'll have to be the secondary driver. AND that will almost double the original price."
No other car rental in Sydney has this weird policy. So I went across the road, and actually ended up with a cheaper deal than the one quoted by NoBirds.
So much for being the "no frills cheapest option"
