Tiaraaaaa Local Star

I enjoy being out and about, nature and taking as many holidays as possible. I love shopping and grabbing a good bargain, sipping a good latte and generally being on the move. I love having the opportunity to review all my favourite businesses and the few not so nice, and hope that my reviews are useful to other people.

  • Vinnies

Used, Vintage & Consignment Clothing Retailers Burleigh Waters, QLD
Newly established Vinnies within the Burleigh Court Centre. Lots of second hand and vintage clothing, bric a brac, deceased estates, hidden collectibles if you have the time to search through.

The layout is quite modern reflected with the higher than expected prices on some goods, but a charitable organization none the less.
  • Groupon Australia

    Shopping Centres Sydney, NSW
Of all the discount voucher sites I have used have never experienced any problems redeeming. I mainly purchase restaurants deals for the value they offer (perfect for dates nights ;) and they invite you to try restaurants you wouldn't usually otherwise consider. Prices vary depending on location and star rating but generally a 3 course meal for 2 would cost $29 and up or a seafood platter around $59.

Having also purchased from the Groupon Goods range, I found the tracking information was communicated well immediately after purchase and all items arrived working and undamaged, my only gripe being the slower than expected delivery.
  • CityRail

    Public Transportation Fortitude Valley, QLD
A pleasant, hassle free experience booking a family member's train trip to Sydney. Simple registration over the phone where you can easily upgrade to first class or a sleeper cabin and pay by credit card. A ticket is then forwarded by email and can be presented on a smart phone or printed. All in all a very simple booking system assisted by professional customer service and technology.
  • McDonald's

    Takeaways Salamander Bay, NSW
Perfect stop for breakfast on check out from Oaks Salamander Bay (fave place to stay). Drive thru or dine in, tried both and the service has always been friendly and quick.

Convenient location within the shopping centre but close enough to enjoy a cheap breakfast by the waters. Nowadays you can still enjoy a cheap mac as brekkie and a late checkout with all day breakfast.

The menu options seem to expand each time I go there with now a selection of healthier alternatives such as muesli rather than a bacon and egg (sure ;)
  • Gold Coast - Local Studies Library

    Libraries Southport, QLD
A large local library situated in the heart of Southport CBD. Southport is a busy precinct it offers peace of mind that the library offers 3hours free parking for patrons (otherwise parking can be very frustrating).

There are a lot of facilities offered at the Southport branch including an onsite cafe, free wifi, plenty of computers for patron use, conference rooms, a large DVD library and plenty of books for all ages.

The library catalogue is extensive with an inta-library service available between all Gold Coast branches and One membership card is valid for all the branches.

Regular workshops, online courses and school holiday activities are available through the library free of charge.
  • Hungry Jack's

    Takeaways Coolangatta, QLD
Hungry Jack's is always a savior when you arrive just that bit too early for your flight and the annoying hunger pang bites (I wasn't hungry at home ma, I swear haha).

Similar to other chains although Customer service is a top priority and I have never had any issues with incorrect orders or bad food (the tight competition all around must contribute).

From my experiences I have found nothing to fault other than wait times (expected at the airport).
  • Hungry Jack's

    Takeaways Dural, NSW
Always a fan of Hungry Jack's tried out the drive thru on the way to visit friends. Faultless service and very minimal wait time. Food was served hot and fresh and no complaints all round. Recommend as one of the better ones in Sydney.
  • Harris Farm Markets

Supermarket & Grocery Stores SYDNEY MARKETS, NSW
A very welcome addition for the city worker with generous trading hours to allow for an after hours shop or lunch break, time permitting.

I love the market atmosphere and the fresh and wide range of ingredients. Market prices, quality and range - one not to be missed!
  • Harris Farm Markets

    Farmers Market Ultimo, NSW
Ohhhhh after being away for a while during a recent visit to Sydney I was glad to stop in at Harris Farm and collect a few staple items (cmon Harris Farm, open a Gold Coast store). Regular weekly specials and great bulk specials (particularly enticing during mango season).

Occupying the bottom level of Broadway Shopping Centre on entry fresh flowers (if you are a green thumb you can pick up a bargain with the discounted flowers/plants that just need a revive).

My favourite Ricotta ravioli is housed in the freezer fridges. An extensive range of sliced meats, olives, antipasto favourites and cheese can be purchased at the deli section.

Gourmet cheeses, homemade dips, lasagnes and quiches, fresh from the farm milk, organic meat, vegetarian alternatives, fresh vegetables and fruits, nuts, international ingredients - I could go on and on but seriously this is one market you don't want to miss.

Parking right at the door (if you are lucky) and I would recommend avoiding peak times as it can get pretty crowded manoevring a trolley through the right aisles.
  • Pacific Fair Newsagency

    Newsagents Broadbeach Waters, QLD
Although not overly large, they do stock a number of gift ideas not seen in your regular department stores, particularly small sentimental gifts perfect for aunts and grandmas.

The service is always friendly and not overly busy so no long wait times to purchase lotto or scratchies.

Nothing unusual in the way of regular stocking of magazines, papers, stationery, cards, etc.
  • Carrara Pharmacy Care Of Cocos Food Fair

    Chemists Carrara, QLD
The prices are regularly lower with regular lower prices on over the counter medications, weekly catalogue specials and discounted items.

Great range of your regular pharmacy items - make up, household cleaners, vitamins, bathroom necessities, prescriptions and health care advice, etc.

The service is friendly but there always seems to be a long wait for service of prescriptions and behind the counter medications regardless of the number of staff available.

Convenient as located right next door to the medical centre with ample parking at the front door, although not one I would recommend if you are in a rush.

  • Giant Chemist - Pacific Fair

    Chemists Broadbeach Waters, QLD
Certainly justifies its name with the enormous layout of the store. Easy to navigate aisles with simple signage so you are not wasting time searching for a particular item although the staff are very helpful if you do need assistance.

They regularly discount items on top of their already generous catalogue specials and these items can generally be found towards the front tables.

The range is extensive and the prices competitive. You can certainly stock up on everyday household essentials for a fraction of the cost at Giant Chemist.
  • 7-Eleven

Convenience Stores Tweed Heads South, NSW
This 7 Eleven is perfectly located particularly if heading northbound of the border and fuel is running a little low :/ Trading hours are convenient open late for passing travelers to make a pitstop. Partnered with Mobil, the fuel is good quality filters through the modern pumps and less fuel gouging between e10 & 98 prices.

Well stocked store with full 7 Eleven facilities (drinks, confectionery, phone credit, cigarettes, slurpees, hot food), friendly service and onsite ATM.

I just wish the 7 Eleven chain would make public toilets available.
  • Pizza Hut

    Takeaways Burleigh Waters, QLD
Visitors arriving and not feeling up to cooking I stopped in for a takeaway at PH opting for a selection of pizzas including Supreme, Veggie Delight, Hawaiian and Pepporoni. The store was not busy so the wait time was minimal. The service was really friendly even offering suggestions from the menu. Happily my pizzas were cooked perfectly and served hot to go. The introduction of the value range is a great money saver, particularly for kids sleepovers and visitors with prices starting at $5.95.

Convenient location with Dan Murphy's right next door ;)
  • KFC

    Takeaways Miami, QLD
Popular suburban outlet convenient for a late night takeaway after a day at the beach. Quick service and no issues encountered with incorrect orders or unavailable items.

The menu has expanded to include specialty items such as the Kentucky Burger, snack boxes for lighter alternatives or boxed dinners for the family.

Ample parking, efficient drive thru, friendly service and convenient location.
  • Miami Kebab

    Takeaways Miami, QLD
Whenever shopping at Miami One Coles I always pick up kebabs to take home. Fresh meat and salads and awesome chilli sauce.

Of course your regular offerings are available such as falafel, sides of chips, burgers, drinks and sweets.

Friendly service, good prices and fresh kebabs
  • BP

Petrol & Service Stations Karuah, NSW
Unless you are familiar with the area you could easily miss this BP which is now a victim of the bypass. A modern outlet offering all the fuels including 98 Ultimate. Well stocked store with all your road trip top ups and an onsite cafe with hot food.

  • Yuen's Fruit and Vegetable Specialists

Supermarket & Grocery Stores Mermaid Waters, QLD
I love ducking into Yuen's fruit market on my way home mainly due to its convenient location off Markeri Street.

The fruit and vegetables are always fresh and offer plenty of selection. The prices are often discounted, particularly the bucket promotions and if you buy bulk.

Also a nice selection of grocery items, fresh sliced meats, bakery items (homemade banana bread yum) and organic selections. If you have the time grab a coffee at the on site cafe.
  • First Choice Liquor

Bottle Shops Tweed Heads South, NSW
For locals or travelers passing through, First Choice is conveniently located within the Homemaker Centre. Ample parking right at the door it offers the convenience and simplicity to pick up a drop.

With a warehouse style layout the variety of wines, beers (local and international), spirits and premixed is plentiful and price matched to beat competitors. If you find a cheaper price at another liquor store that has not been beaten, they will match the price on the spot.

They also stock a variety of quality gift items for that special someone that likes a finer drop (and you can usually score a great bargain).

Friendly service, overwhelming range, great prices, regular weekly specials and convenient location - what more could you ask for.
  • Pillow Talk

    Fabric Stores Robina, QLD
A huge thank you to the team at Pillow Talk Robina for their recent assistance with purchasing a large commercial order. Their professionalism ensured our order was accurate and received within record time. Thank you for a hassle free experience.

On a personal note, I love popping into Pillow Talk as their stock is always on trend with in season designs. The store space is utilized well showcasing a number of decorating ideas and there are generally some good in store bargains which makes for a happy shopper :)
