Tiaraaaaa Local Star

I enjoy being out and about, nature and taking as many holidays as possible. I love shopping and grabbing a good bargain, sipping a good latte and generally being on the move. I love having the opportunity to review all my favourite businesses and the few not so nice, and hope that my reviews are useful to other people.

  • BWS - Miami Dbs Mermaid Beach

    Bottle Shops Mermaid Beach, QLD
This outlet is a gem for a quick stopover before heading home or out. Situated in the little Mermaid Beach shopping centre the location is perfect straight off the Gold Coast Highway and there is ample parking in the centre so you are not worrying about the chaos of off street parking. There is plenty of well known BWS range including snacks and soft drinks, despite the small locality. The service is friendly and the service wait times minimal.
  • The Rivermark Cafe

    Cafes Port Macquarie, NSW
While waiting for our boat hire time our holiday party decided to dine in at The Rivermark Caf for a hearty breakfast and I am very glad this was the venue we chose. Thankfully the day was beautiful so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the picturesque river views. The staff were wonderful stopping for a few minutes to have a chat with us about our holiday plans and provide recommendations for local activities to do in Port and its surrounds. Honestly cannot fault a thing. The service was impeccable, the wait times minimal and the prices fairly reasonable for the portion sizes and coffee satisfaction. I went with my favourite, eggs benedict which was cooked perfectly and there were no complaints from my dining partners with their big breakfasts.

Great location, great views, perfect service and will definitely be back next time we are travelling through Port Macquarie.

  • BP

Petrol & Service Stations Southport, QLD
Another great BP outlet to add to the list :) In a fluctuating market and owning a vehicle which requires premium fuel, it is always a bonus to find a service station who keep their prices competitive and provide flawless customer service each time. It is an older outlet so the pumps are not as flashy and new as others, but they work well all the same and you don't feel like you are standing there sucking in a few dollars of air before the petrol enters the lines.

The store itself is modern with an open plan layout allowing easy access to the cashiers for hassle free payment. An onsite caf for a quick caffeine and plenty of snack foods and drinks. With the recent partnership of BP with Velocity at least now you feel you are being somewhat rewarded for your customer loyalty. Friendly and efficient service, easy to get to location, good prices and good fuel.
  • Tastilicious

    Takeaways Surfers Paradise, QLD
After a beautiful walk along the beach and the Esplanade Markets the journey is then to source a nice meal. Wandering through Cavill Mall, tucked away just past Woolworths is Tastilicious. The seating area is spacious if you choose to take a stop and dine in or you may opt for takeaway instead. The full menu is displayed on the wall for easy ordering and there are plenty of authentic dishes to choose from including one my favourites, BBQ Pork Wonton Soup or if soup is not your thing, you can opt for a rice dish. The prices are reasonable although sadly my only gripe was the soup base was seriously lacking in flavour.

Very friendly staff, eftpos available, minimal wait times and a lot of menu items to choose from. Would be happy to try again.

  • Flowers For Everyone

    Florists Sydney, NSW
Although a little more pricey than the street florists the quality is much better by far and last much longer. I have been both the receiver of a beautiful bouquet and the buyer. The positive reviews speak for themselves. Excellent service and quality flowers.
  • Kmart

    Department Stores Hurstville, NSW
With prices so reasonable you can revamp your home and your wardrobe. If you are savvy with your shopping a lot of items are regularly marked down and you can pick them up for a fraction of the original price - shoes and clothes (particularly during the season changeover) are regularly marked down to $5.00 - hey if they only last a month you don't worry for $5. The service is hit and miss at this store but overall it's worth the visit.
  • Dan Murphy's

    Bottle Shops Hurstville, NSW
If it's alcoholic you will find it at dan Murphy's. When visiting family down South we regularly stock up at again Murphys as you can always find a good drop at a bargain price. When looking for a gift or a special blend they always have it with s wide selection of good quality local and international spirits, wines and beers. The service is always good and with a loyalty card you get the advantage of members monthly specials.
  • Broadbeach Library

    Libraries Mermaid Waters, QLD
Cannot fault anything with this local gem. Modern design with ample parking and a community welcome. Modern technology in place for self service borrowing and returns and an after hours service for late drop offs. I was surprised to find an extensive range of new release movies and TV series to borrow and a quick turnaround service for holds with a convenient text message service to notify members when holds are available. Very helpful service, an easy membership process and a dedicated section for the tiny tots to participate in story time. Great selection of books, DVDs, magazines and newspapers to borrow and I have always found them to be in perfect condition. Major bonus you can access free wifi or utilise the free computers and Internet.
  • KFC

    Takeaways Broadbeach Waters, QLD
The colonel's chicken. That man knew he had created something big. One of the food court options to choose from
for fast food while out and about in Pacific Fair. The service is a little slow in getting orders out but always delivered hot and no complaints on taste.
  • Ice Design

    Clothing Retailers Broadbeach Waters, QLD
A great selection of on trend pieces reasonably priced for seasonal changes. They regularly have sales where you can score a new season bargain. Saw something you really like but they don't have your size. The helpful staff are happy to assist with finding alternatives through other stores. Convenient location, great prices and on trend designs.
  • Chevron Island Seafoods

    Takeaways Surfers Paradise, QLD
Family run business offering a very friendly and personable service. Their memories for locals' orders is spot on as I witnessed on my recent visit. Traditional flavours, very tasty chips and a good selection of takeaway items. The parking is tight and can be quite chaotic in Chevron Island so if there weather permits and you are local I Highly recommend walking over the bridge and enjoying your feast overlooking the river.
  • Get Stuffed Sandwich Bar

    Takeaways Surfers Paradise, QLD
I love the play on words of this great little sandwich bar. Get stuffed is exactly how you feel with generous portions, tasty sandwich selections, warm customer service and very reasonabky prices. They also offer enticing morning coffee deals perfect before work and you can pick up some lunch at the same time.
  • Hungry Jack's

    Takeaways Surfers Paradise, QLD
The Tender Crisp Chicken burger has always been a firm favourite of mine from Hungry Jack's. Over the weekend I ventured out for a fast food indulgence and landed myself at HJ's. The customer service was friendly although a little disappointing that they were advertising a promotion that wasn't available until the following week :/

The new Hunger Tamers meal deal is great value with a bacon deluxe burger and cheeseburger, nuggets, chips and drink.
  • McDonald's

    Takeaways Runaway Bay, QLD
A food court really isn't a food court without McDonald's. Standard menu offering a variety of choice of your old meal deal favourites, loose change items such as McBites or the Chicken Cheese and Mayo burger (one I am a sucker for) or dessert items such as McFlurry or if you really want old school the focus apple pie. Fast service just how you like it for fast food.
  • I Love Frozen Yogurt

Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Runaway Bay, QLD
The name says it all but to add to that that they are a mobile service and you have a winning combination. A nice selection of flavours and perfect alternative on a warm day to over priced ice creams. Highly recommend.
  • The Cheesecake Shop

    Bakeries Runaway Bay, QLD
Always a fan of the range from the Chessecake Shop. Always a happy friendly team and quality cakes to select for birthdays, special occasions or just because. I loved that you can buy quarter pieces instead of whole cheesecakes so you can mix up the dessert tastebuds without the hefty price tag. A delicious selection of choice and even better if you duck just before closing time where you can grab a bargain.
  • Lifeline Nerang

    Community Service/Non-Profit Nerang, QLD
Lifeline Nerang has recently had face lift with a fresh, open plan layout offering a selection of preloved items. It can be a little hit and miss with the prices but hey, it's for charity. Friendly service, convenient location and as the old saying goes, ones trash is another's treasure.
  • Spectrum Fire

Security & Safety System Installation Burleigh Heads, QLD
I highly recommend the professional team at Spectrum who are contracted at my workplace to service and monitor our fire system. They regularly attend as scheduled to conduct routine maintenance checks and tests, are always friendly and flexible given the nature of the business and available at short notice to investigate any faults.
  • BP

Petrol & Service Stations Merrimac, QLD
I commend the friendly service from Wild Bean cafe attached to this BP. The coffee is a little strong but a good wake up for an early morning start and team it with a ham and cheese toastie.

BP recently partnered with Velocity so you can now earn reward points for every litre filled which is an awesome bonus.

Unfortunately I try to refrain from filling up here if I can as I find they take advantage of semi hinterland locals with the petrol prices always higher than their coastal counterparts.

Friendly service, convenient location but obvious price gouging.
  • Sea World Theme Park

    Amusement Parks Main Beach, QLD
Sea World is a great theme park for the younger kiddies. They will especially love a photo op with the Ninja Turtles and to venture into the new Creatures of the Deep exhibit, which is both colourful delightful for kids and educational.

The Motorcyle coaster and Cyclone offering a bit of thrill for the bigger kids and the Dolphin and Seal shows will keep the little rug rats entertained. When visiting the Shark Reef be sure to venture to the underground viewing tank - spectacular and great photo opportunities.

Visit the polar bears, the Dolphins shows and finish the day with a ride around the park on the monorail. Looking for a little more adventure - book ok a scenic helicopter ride.
