I used George again and he was as good as ever! He liaised with my tenant and sorted the problem that I'd rung him for. While he was there he noticed a few other things that were going to cause me problems in the near future and fixed them at the same time. Still excellent value for money.
We had lunch at fermentAsian and it was a great experience. The staff are excellent and assisted us to navigate our way through the huge winelist. The food was delicious. The spring rolls, the pork and betel leaf and the grilled prawns - excellent flavours. As were the chicken with lotus root and paddy herb, the pork belly and the red duck curry. This is many steps above your usual asian dining experience and you will pay accordingly but the experience is worth it.
They have a playground for the kids and a chill out zone with a few computers and wifi connection for ipads etc. Good kids menu with plenty of choice. Now onto the adults. Even though it was really busy it wasn't noisy and the tables aren't crammed together so we could hold a conversation. The entrees that we ordered were lovely as were the mains. Meat came out cooked as requested and fish was fresh and well cooked. We ordered some side dishes and they were generous serves. I'm not a dessert fan but when I saw the dessert menu I knew I had to leave room. The "mixed lolly" sundae with icecreams made from chico babies, banana lollies and raspberry lollies with assorted lollies scattered on top took me back to my childhood. The donut with scorched almond icecream was delicious as was the chocolate terrine.
All the staff were excellent apart from management. We were there for a birthday and I wanted to order the birthday girl a cocktail. They'd just updated their cocktail list and it was all fruity cocktails and the birthday girl loves chocolate so I asked if they knew a chocolate cocktail. The management replied that the list was the list and they couldn't do anything else. I asked if they had a cocktail book behind the bar and was informed that "they were not a cockatil bar" which is interesting considering they have a cocktail list. In any case, everyone has internet how hard is it to look a recipe up? I gave up and returned to the table annoyed.
I decided to have another go and asked a different staff behind the bar for a chocolate cocktail who promptly replied that they had a Toblerone on the previous cocktail menu and that he would dig the recipe up. Five minutes later a delicious chocolate cocktail appeared on our table. The birthday girl enjoyed her birthday drink and the managements poor service was overridden but her staff's excellent service.
This is a bit of a trek through an industrial area but it's worth it. We were off to a good start with three massive cold rolls stuffed with herbs and some equally good shredded pork rolls. The spring rolls held their own too. The beef pho was great - excellent broth. The combination vermicelli salad was recommended by the staff and was an excellent choice - spring rolls, pork, sugarcane prawns - you name it it was in there. We also ordered the stirfried beef salad. Not our favourite pick of the day but definitely worth a try. The salad sizes are huge so it's also excellent value for money.
We picked out the Vietnamese dishes. The cold rolls were fine but needed some herbs in them. The pho was fine. The salt and pepper pork ribs were tasty. The large rice hotpot was not that large and lacked that crispy bottom that has everyone fighting for the last mouthfuls.
I was keen to try breakfast here and I loved it! I went with the poached eggs and beans. They managed to poach my eggs well done without turning them into rubber balls so kudos for that. The pinto beans were delicious. I initially thought the sauce was a bit thin however, that's where the two thick slices of homemade bread came in handy. The bacon was two thickly sliced rashers of smokey bacon. The coffee was good. Can't wait to try their other breakfast offerings.
We walked in and were immediately given pencils, a sharpener (thinking ahead) and colouring in sheets for the kids. The kids meal came out ahead of the adult meals (again, great thinking) and was a generous serve that included a drink, the meal, a frisbee and icecream. There is also a play area. Kids taken care of the rest of us could enjoy ourselves. The seafood platter was excellent with plenty of variety (and not all crumbed!). The salt and pepper squid was tender and tasty. the steak had good taste and the accompanying sauce was delicious however, i ordered it medium rare and it came out verging on well done which was disappointing. If you have kids down Semaphore way - this is a good spot for you
