My name's Sean. I live in Sydney - that's why they call me seansydney! But don't fear - I've travelled to every state of Australia & reviewed anywhere that either annoys me, amazes me or ably accepts me into their establishment! I hope my reviews help you as you travel around too.

I appreciate an organization that is willing to stand up to admit when they don't meet their own standards and then act upon that.
After one initial setback with the ED here, the service received from drs, nurses & senior staff here was outstanding, and the recognition of their response to the setback being insufficient was humble and genuine.
I'd be very happy to get treated here anytime.
For a place that prides itself on chicken, it was a disappointment that the 2 lots of rotisserie chicken we had were dry & chewy - overlooked.
The burgers, however, were delicious - especially the skinless chicken fillet burger.
Fairly good prices, especially for the area. Just don't get the rotisserie chicken.
Whether it's for the famous pie with mushy peas or a tasty beef/chicken/anything else pie or a generously topped hot dog, here's the place to go. There isn't a lot of seating, especially at lunch time, but if you're there at the right time then there's nothing like sitting on the stools and enjoying a true staple of Aussie existence. Nowhere quite like it elsewhere in Newcastle!
First up, it's great that this is open til 2.30 for lunch - when you're too busy to stop earlier, it's good to still be able to get a real feed rather than fast food.
We ordered steak, pie & a garlic chicken dish. The garlic chicken sauce was absolutely delicious and went fantastically with their really crunchy tasty thick chips. I could eat just a bowl of chips with that sauce!
The steak, although huge, was too chewy which was unfortunate.
The pie was tasty and had good chunks of meat.
Seating has got great character, and wasn't busy at all at lunch time. Staff were friendly and not stressed about the fact it was 2.15 when we ordered! One negative was that we could see into the kitchen and so could see them pouring the sauce out of plastic takeaway containers - not the greatest look.
But a solid tasty meal for an average price.
Before you ignore the rest of my review, read this: ORDER THE LAKSA! Having said that, everything is delicious, but the laksa is the best.
Now onto the more mundane...This isn't a big restaurant, but if you're there when it's not busy then you'll enjoy it more. Great prices - most meals around $10, and entrees around $5. Huge serving sizes, we ate for $50 for a family of 4 and were really full at the end. Photos on this site were of our meal - Bee Hoon was nice, Fried rice was delicious & laksa was superdiddlyscrumptiouslyfantastic!!
Nice atmosphere, interesting photos/pictures in the wall. Staff have passable English though some struggled with ?'s.
I'll be back!
The brochure looks lovely - sea views, nice rooms with lovely kitchen, bathroom.
The reality isn't like that. No ocean view, old rooms with dated kitchen, ugly tiny bathroom.
There's nothing horrible about here but there's not much special to say either. It was clean & comfortable - that's pretty much it.
$8 doesn't buy much. But it will get you a haircut here. Yep - $8. I'll spell it out: Eight Bucks!
With that sort of price, you can understand that the staff have some weaknesses - their English is very basic, for example - however I've had my hair cut here several times and so can say with confidence that they do cut hair fine for me. Now understand that I just get a number 4 all round, but they do that fine and I've seen them do other people's hair that's a bit more complex too. It would help if you spoke Chinese as that seems to be their major clientele.
But hey - $8.00. Save yourself the money you'd spend and buy a hat to cover your head if you don't like your haircut ;-)
I recently had to make a sudden change of my booking here because of family health issues. The care shown & flexibility was very encouraging and helpful. I'm disappointed I couldn't stay this time, but a previous stay was fantastic & I hope to do so in the future.
I took a whale watching cruise on sydney harbor/heads with this company & thoroughly enjoyed it. The crew were knowledgable, friendly, entertaining and professional. The boat was small enough that we could choose good seats and get closer to whales than otherwise, but big enough that it wasn't scary or too rocky.
We were the first boat to find the whales, and had a while of seeing them do all sorts of things that were explained to us by the friendly crew. We then took a bit of time to cruise along and upon our return they gave us some interesting facts about the area as we went along.
Great trip, although I'm glad we got it at a discount price as I'm not sure it was worth the regular price of $85.
Attention to patients? No 'check'
Attention to patients' family's instructions? No 'check'
Or to put it another way - the poor care received during this stay & the lack of following good procedures led me to only give this hospital half a star.
Nice clean cellar door, good range of wines & staff who are willing to advise you on what you might like without making you feel inferior.
In the same complex is the cheese factory which is also worth a visit.
This 7-11 is in a great location for hospital staff & visitors: better than even a cafe in the hospital, esp because it's open 24 hours. Good sized store & so there's a good range of food & personal necessities, with reasonable prices.
One would think that all subway outlets would have the same bread. One would be wrong in this case. I've been here 3 times in the last 3 days & the bread has been crumbly, tasteless & just not anywhere near as nice as other subways.
On the + side, it's convenient to the hospital & they do seem to be more generous with toppings than other subways.
This medical clinic literally opened the week I went there (Oct 2013), but the service I received was like I was an old friend. I had to make a sudden trip to Wollongong due to illness of a family member but didn't bring important medication or paperwork for me with me. Everyone - from the reception staff to the dr - completely understood my needs, were helpful, and were able to assist. There was no waiting at all - I could just walk in and get help - and no stress.
2 days later, my mum had the same issues as me as she also had rushed there and they helped her even more easily.
5+ stars for this clinic.
Perhaps the best part of this is that there's ample apple merchandise available to try before shelling out the $$. And staff to answer questions about your product and take your $$.
Great place equally for a geek or someone wanting to get a feel for apple's products.
It's not often I have trouble finishing my lunch - but the generous size of the kebabs here made it hard! What helped though was the delicious taste.
All of this for a very reasonable price. Great spot & a couple of little tables inside too.
I unexpectedly had to rush to Wollongong & found myself without important medication.
The pharmacist here was incredibly fantastically helpful & helped with advice plus help. Very friendly, well-stocked & a nice clean store too.
I was hesitant to book here because it's associated with uni accommodation. But I'm glad I stayed here. Nice fresh room with good aircon, lovely balcony, and all for $100!
On the -ve side, the car park is appallingly small and hard to get out of, and if you had a cat (which isn't allowed of course!) then you couldn't swing it in the bathroom: it's not big at all.
In all of that, I'd stay here without a ?
The good: It's directly opposite the WEC.
The not good: Probably everything else. That is unless you like:
- Staff who can't give decent phone directions to the hotel.
- Ugly 70's decor.
- Pillows hidden where you'd never find them without asking.
- Having spoons but no bowls in the room.
- Having to ask for milk in the room.
- A stove so old I'd be afraid to use it
- No ability to darken the room from outside light.
- An air conditioner that doesn't cool effectively & rattles all night.
All this might be better if the price were cheap. But at $121 per night it's just not right.
This cafe is now called Connie's as they have new owners. Surprisingly large choice of foods on the menu given the small size of the building. Price seemed expensive til we got our meals - they were very generously sized. Taste was good, especially the melt.
Couple of disappointments though - I had to ask twice for food I'd ordered that they'd forgotten about, and the outside seating was quite wobbly.
