Bawa is a fantastic new café with a swiftly growing reputation in Hawthorn and beyond. The food is sublime, the staff delightful and, best of all, as you chow down on your chilli scrambled eggs, superfood salad or pressed lamb shoulder, you can gaze out the heavily windowed wall for a stunning view of Sofas Direct. Heaven!
We spoke to the owner, Chris, to discover his local story:
What is your story?
Our story is simple really, myself (Chris Griffiths, former head chef Three Bags Full) and my business partners (Shrian Baghwandas, formerly Dukes Coffee/ Story Coffee) and the Sahely family (Matt, Kael and Elias, Barry Cafe, Square and Compass, formerly Piller of Salt) have spoken for years about opening a place together and when the site in Hawthorn came up we opened Bawa Cafe.
What is your business famous for? Do you have a signature dish?
Our Roesti (Potato roesti, slow braised pork shoulder, poached eggs, herb hollandaise) or our Chilli eggs (Chilli scrambled eggs, pickled shitake mushrooms, kaiserfleisch, reggiano, toast) are so far our stand out dishes.
What is your favourite local business?
