Adelaide has had one cracker of a year when it comes to five-star food and devilishly good drinks. And today, we’re unpacking some of the hottest spots of the whole year, from winter dessert winners, to hidden laneway bars.
If you’re looking for the best local hangouts in Adelaide, add these gems to your list of must-sees this summer, then grab your mates and get moving. These places won’t stay a secret forever!
Best pet-friendly place of 2017:
1/35 Semaphore Rd
Can’t leave the home without your pooch? Never fear, because your canine friends will love Whipped as much as you will! Staff welcome your pups with open arms, with water bowls on standby for all four-legged friends.
As for the humans, expect perfectly roasted coffee in every cup, and that includes cute coffee art on top. Food-wise, they’ve got everything from bacon and egg rolls to crunchy granola, and even an adorable green eggs and ham.
Best bacon venue of 2017:
32 George St
Finally, we’ve found a humble, cosy haven to tuck into bacon sandwiches. Yep, if you fancy pigging out on some seriously comforting food, Mister Sunshine’s has you covered. In addition to tasty bacon sandwiches, jam-packed with egg, roasted tomatoes, chilli jam and rocket, you’ll also find pumpkin fritters, chorizo bagels, and plenty more fresh, local produce.
As the name suggests, you’ll find plenty of sunny outdoor dining, surrounded by green succulents, yellow umbrellas, and great company.
Best dessert of 2017:
41 Mount Barker Rd
Hot damn, if there was ever a place to check out for scrumptious desserts, it’s Red Cacao. The boutique, artisan chocolate shop is smack bang in the heart of Adelaide Hills, and takes its chocolate-y craft very seriously.
This venue offers everything from block chocolates and truffles to delectable hot chocolates, macarons and dessert tasting platters. If you’re headed there this summer, they also do iced drinks, if your body can handle the chocolate overload.
Best frosé hotspot of 2017:
73 Grenfell St
This sneaky basement hideaway is a venue where vinyl is still cool, and all the décor and music is frozen somewhere in the late 1990s. Speaking of frozen, this place has the best frosé in Adelaide, which you’ll just die for this summer.
Packed with Woodstock rosé, strawberries, and just a dash of 78 Degrees Adelaide Hill gin, this drink will quench your thirst and have you coming back for more. They also throw some decent live music discos if your arvo drinks turn into a night out.
Best laneway bar of 2017:
Lindes Lane is a crossover between cosy cafe and whimsical wine bar, hidden in a basement in the heart of Adelaide. With astro turf and colourful plastic lounge chairs, these guys have really nailed the quirky aesthetic.
But it doesn’t just impress on face value; rest assured, its extensive wine list is epic, covering every wine region you can think of. And it’s beer offerings aren’t far behind. You’ll be thanking us as soon as you step inside this little beauty.
