Hope your schedule’s clear, ‘cause we’ve got a full day of cocktails planned out for you and your thirsty friends. In fact, maybe you should clear tomorrow as well. You know, just to be safe.
Hey, we did say a full day. Go hard or go home, mate. Anyway, what better way to kick off the day than with a crisp, tasty blend of prosecco, rosato, rosewater and strawberry aniseed shrub? It’s called the “Darling”, and it’s readily available at renowned brunch haven Pickle in the Middle. A fine accompaniment to their famous eggs on toast or Pickle in the Middle Sandwich.
“What a beautiful little unique cafe. It us that “something” when it comes to you wanting that “something different” The staff were warm and welcoming, and the food was pretty delish!! Can’t be more in love with all the preserved pickles and jalapeños and other assorted goodies! Totally yum!” – TheMiddleIngredient
Why, did someone say “liquid lunch”? Our next stop is the warm and inviting Gin Long Canteen, where Asian-fusion cuisine meets expert cocktail mixmanship. If you still haven’t quite woken up yet (it’s only lunchtime, so it’s very understandable), definitely go for the fiery Gin Pho. That’s gin, Grand Marnier, Thai basil, star anise and chili, and it’ll perk you right up.
“We got to see the chefs preparing all of the meals and they all looked amazing. The waitress was more than happy to help us navigate the menu, offering us helpful suggestions. The food came out quickly and was really delicious. I usually decide whether I like a restaurant on how likely I would be to return, and I will most certainly be returning to Gin Long in the very near future.” – nursingnotes3
While it’s questionable whether owls actually howl, there’s no denying that The Howling Owl is perfect for tucking yourself away in a cosy nook for the afternoon. Once you’ve done that, order the wonderful “Papa Don’t Peach”, which mixes Kangaroo Island Old Tom with peach, strawberries, Elderflower TIRO and prosecco. It’s a gorgeously refreshing afternoon bevvie, and it’ll take you smoothly into dinnertime.
“Loved the atmosphere and the staff were great. Good beer and wine selection but the fact that they only stock gin makes this place one of my favourites. The gin cocktails that I had were outstanding. We had some cheese and meat plates as well – a relatively expensive way to eat but great quality and all SA produce. Can see this being a regular haunt.” – 4chillis
Dinner time! You’ve done well making it this far, so you should reward yourself with some of Panacea’s signature kickass Mediterranean food. We’re thinking the gnocchi with slow-roasted lamb shoulder, served with smoked cherry tomatoes and green chimichurri. Before that, however, you should definitely sample the Negroni. As far as pre-dinner cocktails go, it doesn’t get much better.
“Great food, good service, reasonably priced – will definitely eat there again.” – pooly
Time to wind things down for the evening (or kick things up, depending on how you look at it), and that means a nightcap at Hains & Co. The bar here is so stocked it requires an entire second level to store everything, and the interior is a pleasing mix of comfy elegance and quirky nautical imagery (keep a look out for the ancient diving helmet). We’d highly recommend the “Sidecar”, a classic cocktail made from St Agnes XO, fresh lemon juice and Cointreau.
“Hains & Co is a cool bar located on Gilber Place which is just across the road from my office building. I had heard of this bar through a friend and decided to go here with a couple workmates for after work drinks the other week to celebrate a birthday and a long week! The bartenders were friendly and lively and the space though a little on the small side it was lively with a good vibe.” – xbabydollx
