We all know that Adelaide is a chic and laid back city, but do you know which restaurant doors you need to swing to find a mighty fine long lunch? Let’s take a look at our pick of the best places to stuff your face and satisfy your tastebuds.
You’ve gotta hand it to the Greeks – they know how to do lunch. After all, there’s nothing like sitting down and ordering about 20 different share plates to graze on for hours. And this is exactly what you can do at Estia, home of beautiful beach views and delicious food. Their small dishes (also known as Mezedakia, if you want to be fancy) are perfect to enjoy with friends, or just by yourself if you’re hungry. We recommend the Tis Skaras Garithes – that’s king prawns marinated in garlic and fennel, then chargrilled. Who needs to pay for flights to Greece when the food is this good right here at home?
“Food divine, service is great, wine list is extensive. Great place for dinner watching the sun set.” – stepwed
An intimate dining space in the heart of Adelaide, Georges on Waymouth is one stylish little number. You have the choice of ordering from an a la carte menu or the five-course tasting menu. Both are great, but if it’s a long, luxurious lunch you’re after, go for the tasting menu. You’ll get fine meals like the Tasmanian Salmon, served with pomegranate, orange, feta, pea puree and salmon pearls. Made with fresh ingredients, every bite is bursting with goodness and flavour.
“I went to a work lunch here recently and I could not fault it. The food was divine and the service impeccable. The waiter noticed it was a working lunch and approached the group accordingly, waiting for lulls in the discussion before taking orders and attending to the group. I highly recommend this place.” – Belinda.H
Japanese food for lunch? Sign us up! Not only is Sushi Bar Genki an exciting Japanese restaurant, but it also has touchscreen ordering. You can sit down, select your meal on your tablet and wait for your meal to arrive. If you’ve still got room left, you can order more and more – making your lunch as long as you like without any judgement. Try the Hiroshima Vegetarian Okonomiyaki. Trust us – even a diehard meat eater would love this dish.
“Friendly, happy staff with good very fresh sushi, lots of interesting different ingredients.” – lertus
If you’re looking for a long lunch, you can’t go past Ruby Red Flamingo. The surrounds might be super-trendy and fun, but order the banquet menu and they will feed you like an old-school Italian nonna. Seriously. Of course, you can also go for some of their shared plates, like the incomparable Salisiccia. We’re talking about chargrilled pork and fennel sausage with cherry tomato, eggplant, potato and capsicum peperonata. Give it a go, and forever wonder how they manage to pack so much flavour into one dish.
“This place is AMAZING, if you want real authentic Italian food, this is the place to go.” – LW94
In our humble opinion, you haven’t lived until you’ve tried Polenta Con Taleggio Funghi e Pesto. This delectable dish is creamy polenta dressed with sautéed mushrooms, taleggio cheese, basil pesto and pine nuts – and it’s something you must order at Andre’s Cucina & Polenta Bar. These guys deliver a dining experience that you won’t ever want to end, so choose from grazing boards or their set menu and settle in for a long, happy meal. One word – bellissimo!
“Enjoyed dinner there on Friday 26/8 before going to a show. The restaurant is so popular that they have two sitting of a weekend so book. Have eaten there four time this year and food and service always constantly very good.” – Maurice Hoy
