Queensland Ballet’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Date: 1-16 April
Location: Playhouse, QPAC, South Brisbane

It’s a Shakespeare classic, and it’s been given new life by Queensland Ballet and acclaimed choreographer Liam Scarlett. A Midsummer Night’s Dream tells the story of the marriage of Theseus to Hippolyta, through the adventures of a group of young Athenian lovers manipulated by a forest full of fairies. Come along for a whimsical story of love, jealousy and mistaken identities through Shakespeare’s witty comedic genius, Mendelssohn’s wonderful music played by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and of course Queensland Ballet’s choreographic talent set in a beautiful mystical forest. Rock & Roll Writers Festival

Location: The Brightside, Fortitude Valley

Who is a better story-teller – Bob Dylan or Kendrick Lamar? How do you craft the perfect lyrics? You’ll find all the answers and more at the Rock & Roll Writers Festival this April in Brisbane. For any fans of literature, rock, or both, this festival is a truly unique event that you won’t want to miss. It’s an exploration into the creative relationship between writing and music that will bring together some of Australia’s best authors, songwriters and critics in a series of thought-provoking discussion panels and interviews. Brisbane Baroque

Following an extremely successful first event in 2015, Brisbane Baroque is back in 2016. Take a trip back in time at Brisbane Baroque this April, a festival celebrating the sublime music of the baroque era, from the 1600s to 1750. Catch mesmerising classical music performances including the works of Bach, as well as award-winning operas including Handel’s Agrippina, all performed by some of the world’s best at venues all over Brisbane. Festival of Tibet

Date: 18-24 April
Location: Brisbane Powerhouse

Enter the magical surrounds of Tibet at Brisbane Powerhouse this April in a week-long celebration of one of the world’s most beautiful and mystical lands. Spread the good karma through a variety of concerts, exhibitions, discussions and workshops centred on the principles of compassion, non-violence and optimism in the face of adversity, inspired by one of the most peaceful cultures in the world. Through a mix of free and ticketed events, all proceeds from the festival will be going to the Tibetan Children’s Village schools in India, to assist the Tibetan refugee community.
