Have you ever faced the heart-rending choice of going out with your mates or staying in with your dog? Well, these Brisbane venues are here to eliminate such dreadful dilemmas. All are welcome – how pawesome is that!
Since dim and distant past of 1997, Sassafras Canteen has given us great food, top-notch coffee, and service with a smile. It’s also got a really awesome leafy courtyard area, where doggos, puppers and woofers are welcome to stretch out and relax. While you’re there, try the Amber Ale Braised Pork Belly Burger. It’s worth it for the chipotle spiced coleslaw alone.
“Love the atmosphere. Good service consistent. One of my highlights is being given a hand crochet shawl to be draped around me as I sip my cappuccino. Fantastic that it is now open on Friday nights too.” – Myrna
Brisbane is probably the only place in the world where Atticus Finch is more famous as a cafe than a literary character, and with damn good reason. This place is great! There’s tons of outdoor deck seating where your pooch can feel right at home, complete with water bowls, leash hooks and even a treat or two. Speaking of treats, make sure you order the Honey-Roasted Bacon Toastie. With a fried egg, onion jam, Swiss cheese and aioli, it’s pure breakfast bliss.

The Scratch is one of the most laid-back places in town, and their policy of “Damn good drinkin’” never fails to disappoint. There’s all sorts of interesting craft beers on offer, as well as a tasty selection of cheeseboards. The venue is also BYO food, not to mention BYO dogs! Your furry friend is very much invited to join in the fun at The Scratch, so bring him/her down to make some new puppy pals.
“Great little craft beer bar in Milton. Always a large selection of different craft beers and local Gipsy breweries available. Free nuts too! Can’t go wrong!” – LeighSilvester
There’s dog friendly, and then there’s Saabi dog friendly. “Fur kids” are extremely welcome in the courtyard, and you can even lay down a picnic blanket in the backyard to dine with your doggy in style. Speaking of which, you need to sample the Corn Fritter Wedge. That’s a veggie burger with grilled bread, corn fritter, avocado mash, tomato, red onion, beetroot and salad leaves. Delicious.
“Food is always phenomenal and such few workers, it only takes a few mins for a coffee and a few mins extra for food and it’s all made fresh. They use herbs they grow. It’s far bigger than it looks as there is seating if you follow the cafe out to the back. Once you get to know the owners, they are just wonderful and so nice. Such a fantastic atmosphere with fun and industrial things hanging around.” – Sf225
It may not be in the middle or our street, but Our Haus is still a really nice place to bring your dog for a spot of breakfast or lunch. They do puppycinos and dog ice cream, as well as meaty treats for your best pal to get stuck into. There’s also plenty for you to enjoy, such as the Creamy Mushroom Risotto with sundried tomatoes, roasted mushrooms, spinach, and a gorgeously creamy white wine and saffron sauce.
“We had delicious and very well cooked meals. The cafe was busy however the staff were friendly and the food was served quickly and tasted fresh. 5 stars for this cafe of which I only knew existed because we were exploring.” – Rachaelisda1
